One of the good news that Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer gave at the Izmir Youth Festival, which was held between 17-21 May within the scope of the youth-oriented city vision, came to life. Free laundry service for university students started in Bornova. There was great interest in the laundry opened across the Ege University campus. After a short while, free laundries will be put into service in Çiğli and Buca, where student mobility is high. It is aimed to serve 40 thousand students during the year with the laundry, which will be used by students without white goods once a week through the appointment system.

Who can benefit from the service?

Volkan Sert, Social Services Branch Manager of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Social Services Department, said that students can make an appointment through BizIzmir application, “It will be enough to upload student documents and register. We will support our students who do not stay in dormitories, do not live with their families and cannot benefit from laundry service. We plan to serve 13 thousand students a year with the laundry opened in Bornova. With the opening of Çiğli and Buca, we aim for 40 thousand students to benefit from the project within the year.”

“We thank President Soyer for considering the students”

Ege University State Turkish Music Conservatory Voice Education Department student Tuğba İnal said, “We cannot meet our white goods needs because we come from out of town. It would be great to provide such a service. We would like to thank our İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer, who thinks about the students and works in this direction.”
Fatma Sürer, who is studying in the same department, stated that the project was very meaningful and said, “I was informed through my friend and I was very happy. I wanted to participate. I come once a week. It has been very beneficial for us and our families.”

“We are going through tough times”

Ege University Special Education Teaching student Adem Yiğit said that he was very happy when he heard about the project and said, “We are going through difficult times economically. Especially we students have a hard time. That's why our president's campaigns for young people are so important. We are very happy. I hope more to come. Tickets given at the festival, meals on the subway, free internet, student discounts on transportation are already beneficial for us. Our friends can also benefit from these activities. We congratulate our President, he is always behind us, he never left us alone," he said.
