A statement was made from the General Directorate of Security (EGM) regarding the news “Students are being drawn into the drug swamp”.
In the statement made by EGM, it was said:
In the news titled "Students are drawn into the drug swamp", which appeared in some media today, some numbers were distorted and a negative perception was tried to be created.
The usage rate under the age of 15 has increased from 1 percent to 0,4 percent in the last 14 year. The rate of use between the ages of 15-19 increased from 11,7 percent to 37,4 percent. 47,8 percent of those receiving treatment are under the age of 19. There are expressions like With these statements, the places of some figures taken from our published reports have been changed, and some figures that do not exist have been reflected as if they existed. A news with a similar content made in March of this year has been refuted by us.
In the same news, some data were distorted and presented in a way to create the perception that the fight against drugs was unsuccessful. According to the data of the General Directorate of Public Health of the Ministry of Health, 2020% of the addicts who received inpatient treatment in 15 said that the age range of their first substance use was 19-37,4. It is necessary to explain how the figure determined in a study whose participants and population consisted only of individuals receiving treatment, was adapted to all children living in Turkey by saying “100 out of 37 children are addicted”.
Although we have made statements many times before, it has been observed that there has been an insistence on false/false news recently, and it is sadly witnessed that this has even been adopted as a method in terms of journalism. For this reason, it is thought that the relevant professional organizations should take urgent measures against the fake news systematic that is being tried to be created.
