Automotive Industry Association (OSD) announced the data for the period of January-May 2022. In this context, the total production in the first 5 months of the year decreased by 4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, to 513 thousand 887 units, while automobile production decreased by 16,2 percent to 296 thousand 362 units. Together with the tractor production, the total production reached 534 thousand 87 units. Automotive exports, on the other hand, decreased by 2021 percent on the basis of units compared to the same period of 3 and reached 380 thousand 372 units. Automobile exports decreased by 16 percent to 215 thousand 892 units.

Automotive Industry Association (OSD), which is the umbrella organization of the sector with its 13 largest members that steer the Turkish automotive industry, has announced the production and export numbers and market data for the first 2022 months of 5. In the January-May period, total production decreased by 4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, to 513 thousand 887 units, while automobile production decreased by 16,2 percent to 296 thousand 362 units. Together with the tractor production, the total production reached 534 thousand 87 units.

Increase in commercial vehicle production

In the first 5 months of the year, commercial vehicle production increased by 22 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. In the January-May period, production in the heavy commercial vehicle group increased by 22 percent, while the production in the light commercial vehicle group increased by 22 percent. In this period, the production of commercial vehicles carrying cargo and passengers was 217 thousand 525, while the production of tractors decreased by 15 percent to 20 thousand 200. Looking at the market, compared to the first 2021 months of 5, the commercial vehicle market decreased by 5 percent, the light commercial vehicle market by 6 percent and the heavy commercial vehicle market by 2 percent.

Market is above 10-year averages

In the January-May period of 2022, the total market decreased by 12 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 290 thousand 816 units. In this period, the automobile market decreased by 14 percent and amounted to 214 thousand 148 units. According to the averages of the last 10 years, in the January-May period of 2022, the total market increased by 0,3 percent, the automobile market by 0,9 percent, and the heavy commercial vehicle market by 3,3 percent, while the light commercial vehicle market decreased by 2,2 percent. In the January-May period of 2022, compared to the same period of the previous year, imported automobile sales decreased by 10 percent and domestic automobile sales by 19 percent.

Total exports decreased by 2,7 percent

In the January-May period of 2022, 215 thousand 892 vehicles were exported, of which 74 thousand 380 were automobiles, constituting 372 percent of the total production. Vehicle exports, realized in the January-May period of this year, decreased by 2021 percent compared to the same period of 3. In this period, automobile exports decreased by 16 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while commercial vehicle exports increased by 22 percent. Tractor exports, on the other hand, increased by 2021 percent compared to 17 and amounted to 7 thousand 290 units.

12,6 billion dollars export was made

According to Uludag Exporters' Association (UIB) data, total automotive exports in the January-May period of 2022 increased by 3 percent compared to the previous year and reached 12,6 billion dollars. On a Euro basis, it increased by 13 percent to 11,5 billion Euros. In this period, exports of the main industry increased by 1 percent in dollar terms, and exports of the supply industry increased by 7 percent. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), total automotive industry exports ranked second in the sectoral export ranking with a share of 2022 percent in the January-May period of 12,2.
