In the fourth month of the war, in which thousands of people died in Ukraine and millions of people became refugees by fleeing to other countries, Ukrainian refugees in Turkey are trying to hold on to life. It is the children who face the darkest side of the war. Children exposed to war trauma may exhibit post-traumatic stress disorder, self-blame, uneasiness, tension, startle situations, restlessness, outbursts of anger, and aggressive behaviors.

World Doctors provide psychosocial support to refugee children every week in Istanbul and Izmir in cooperation with Ukraine Solidarity Association and Izmir Ukrainians Association. With the activities, nearly 8 Ukrainian children aged 12 to 70 learn to cope with the difficulties experienced due to the war and to express their feelings.

Art-Based Psychosocial Support for Children

Art-based activities, together with watercolor, painting and various games, enable children to gain awareness of the post-war reactions they are exposed to and realize that these reactions are normal. In activities where children discover their own relaxation techniques, it is very important to increase coping with the psychosocial problems experienced by people who had to migrate and to strengthen their own resources.
