ÖDEMİŞ: “WE ARE USING THE ORIGINAL TEXTURE EXISTING HERE”

Continuing the project work of the 3rd Stage, the tender of which has been completed, in Ankara Castle, the historical symbol of the capital, ABB takes care to preserve the original texture of the houses.

Bekir Ödemiş, Head of the Department of Cultural and Natural Heritage, stated that they successfully carried out the restoration works without transferring the people who have their houses in Ankara Castle, and made the following evaluations:

“In Ankara Castle, it is possible to see all the cultures that lived in the Capital. When you come to Ankara Castle, you can come across all traces of the past, especially in this social structure where human relations, traditions and social habits brought about by today's intense urbanization have almost disappeared. We do not see it as a classical building restoration, a series of buildings, a neighborhood restoration. We use the original texture that exists here. Another important point is that we do not displace or victimize anyone living here. Turkey is an official part of the Venice Charter. We have started a study in accordance with the Venice Charter. As a result of these studies, the historical feature of Ankara Castle will be preserved. While doing the restoration, we do not demand any fee from anyone under the name of contribution. We have a total of 218 residences. At the end of 5 years, we will have restored the Ankara Houses from the Ottoman Period. Hacettepe Neighborhood, known as Sakalar and Jewish Quarter among the people, is an important texture in the historical city center of Ulus. There is also a Synagogue belonging to the period here. Our municipality is not responsible for the survival and protection of this neighborhood, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change is concerned, but as the Metropolitan Municipality, we follow the process closely.”
