The Metropolitan Municipality is building another 22 kilometers of bicycle paths in Sakarya, the City of Bicycle. The works for the 2nd and 3rd stages of the bicycle path project, which has been completed from the Sunflower Bicycle Valley to the area where the Wagon Kıraathane is located, will begin in a short time. Chairman Yüce said, “We will increase our bicycle path network length to 140 kilometers. We will continue to work to further expand the use of the human and nature-friendly transportation vehicle, the bicycle. Good luck,” he said.

Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality provides approximately 22 kilometers of new bicycle paths to the Bicycle City Sakarya, which is owned by the few cities in the world. Developing new projects with the aim of increasing the use of human and nature-friendly bicycles, the Metropolitan includes newly built streets and bicycle paths on the routes for which renovation works are carried out. Work is starting in a short time for the 2nd and 3rd stages of the bicycle path project, which has been completed from the Sunflower Bicycle Valley to the area where the Wagon Kıraathane is located.

'Anatolian Corridor' will be connected to the bicycle network

The 1st phase of the project, which covers the Sunflower Bicycle Valley and the Wagon Coffeehouse, has been completed, and the tender has recently been put out for the 2nd and 3rd phase works. The second stage, between the Wagon Coffee House and Arifiye Göl Park, is approximately 2 kilometers, and the third stage, which will reach from Arifiye Göl Park to the Kocaeli border, is approximately 8 kilometers. The project, supported by my Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, brings many firsts with it. With the work to be connected to the 'Anatolian Corridor' bicycle network, the integration of national bicycle paths and local bicycle paths will be ensured for the first time in Turkey. In addition, with the completion of the project, the bicycle path network in Sakarya will reach 3 kilometers.

Bicycle use is increasing with investments

President Ekrem Yüce, who shared that the use of bicycles is increasing day by day in the Bicycle City Sakarya, and stated that they have implemented many studies to further popularize the use of the human and nature-friendly transportation vehicle, said that the processes for the new 22-kilometer bicycle path will begin in a short time. Yüce thanked the Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum for his support.

22 kilometers more bike paths

Expressing that for the first time in Turkey, a local government has been awarded the title of 'Bicycle City' and that this award has accelerated investments in bicycles, Mayor Yüce said, “This title we have received in the field of bicycles has not led us to complacency, but rather to show more importance. We had set our bike path network target as 500 kilometers. We are taking steps towards our goal. With the support of our Ministry, we will build another 22 kilometers of bicycle paths. Thus, our total bike path length will increase to 140. We aim to start and complete our work quickly. I wish the best for our city," he said.

The eyes of the world will be in Sakarya

Yüce stated that they will host 5 different cycling organizations in August, and the title of “Bike City Sakarya” not only has bike paths, but also contains many criteria. In this, of course, international organizations have a great importance. As in previous years, I hope we will organize 5 different bicycle organizations in Sakarya this year. We continue our preparations meticulously. We will carry the bicycle culture in our city even higher with the bicycle festival, new bicycle paths, bicycle applications and all other works where the eyes of the world will be on Sakarya.
