While it is evaluated by the Metropolitan Municipality that the spreading area of ​​the ancient city can be opened for construction as a result of the studies, a legal struggle is started with the fear that this will be a precedent decision and that this practice may cause great damage to the historical texture by doing this in other 110 ancient cities.

Metropolitan Municipality Voted Against the Decision

Muğla Metropolitan Municipality is starting a legal fight against georadar and drilling works to be carried out in the expansion area of ​​Myndos Ancient City, which is one of the important port cities of the Caria Region, dating back thousands of years. The Metropolitan Municipality voted "against" the Preservation Board Decision so that no work should be done here. In the evaluation made by the Metropolitan Municipality, although it was stated in the 658st Degree Archaeological Sites section of the 1 numbered principle decision of the High Council for the Protection of Cultural Heritage (Conditions for the Protection and Use of Archaeological Sites) that "no excavations can be carried out except for scientific excavations", it is stated that in the 1st degree archaeological site for the determination of the archaeological potential. The Board Decision allowing drilling is against the law.

Ancient cities should be protected by their topography. As the Metropolitan Municipality, I want it to be known that we will fight against such decisions in order to protect the ancient cities, which are important cultural heritages in our city, and to transfer the historical texture to future generations.
