8 Projects Launched in 19 Main Water Basins

The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change General Directorate of Combating Desertification and Erosion initiated 8 projects in 19 main water basins in order to minimize the negative effects of climate change, combat desertification, prevent erosion, reduce the risk of flooding and overflow, and rehabilitate degraded forests. With the works carried out within the scope of "Integrated Basin Rehabilitation Projects", direct financial benefits will be provided to 157 thousand people in 75 settlements.

8 integrated microcatchment rehabilitation projects in 19 main water basins were prepared by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, General Directorate of Combating Desertification and Erosion, in order to ensure the sustainable use of forest, soil and water resources. When the projects planned for 157 settlements in the first stage are completed, 75 thousand people will be directly benefited from their income-generating and welfare-enhancing aspects.

With the projects to be carried out on an area of ​​approximately 600 thousand hectares under the coordination of the General Directorate of Combating Desertification and Erosion, it is aimed to improve natural resources and ensure their sustainable management, taking measures against possible natural disasters, preventing land destruction, improving biological diversity and increasing soil organic carbon sequestration.

Rehabilitation of areas exposed to desertification will be provided.

Within the scope of the works, together with the relevant institutions, minimizing the negative effects of climate change, which has become a global problem, combating desertification, preventing erosion, reducing the risk of flood and overflow, and detailed rehabilitation of degraded forests - primarily planting and afforestation - will be provided.

Within the framework of the projects initiated with the slogan "Every Basin is a Factory That Makes Production", studies will also be carried out to increase the income level and welfare level of the local people living in the basin. In addition, projects will be implemented to reduce the problems caused by the destruction of natural resources.

It will directly benefit the local people

The Integrated Microcatchment Rehabilitation Project also includes some activities that will directly benefit the people of the region. Within the scope of the project, the development of bovine and ovine breeding, the provision of greenhouse and forage plant support; Income-generating afforestation works such as hawthorn, pistachio, almond, walnut and projecting of medicinal aromatic plants such as linden, safflower, lavender, thyme, sage and similar; Local people will be directly benefited by supports such as the identification of local water resources and the implementation of irrigation works.

In order for the people of the region to benefit more from renewable energy sources in the existing basin area and to minimize the pressure on nature, it is aimed to install solar energy systems and heat and electricity generation systems in the houses, and to prevent heat loss by sheathing works in the existing houses.

Implementation activities

Each of the Engetre Microcatchment Rehabilitation Project consists of many implementation activities and the activities are carried out together with the relevant institutions.

Within the scope of “afforestation works”, soil conservation, recreation, galleries and income-generating afforestation works are carried out on the edges of public spaces, roads and fields; Within the scope of “rehabilitation of degraded forests” activities, revitalization cutting, planting saplings and seed planting, pruning, vaccination and protection activities are carried out.

Erosion measures, flood and overflow control, slope improvement, stream and gully improvement, prevention of erosion in agricultural areas and avalanche and landslide control are provided within the scope of "soil conservation" activities.

Support for welfare

Studies that directly affect the welfare level of citizens living in the basin areas where the projects are implemented draw attention.

Within the scope of "agricultural activities", agricultural terrace construction, fruit sapling support, closed garden facility, greenhouse cultivation, medicinal and aromatic plant cultivation, mushroom cultivation, field road maintenance and establishment, electro-shock wire fence, soil analysis and fertilizer recommendation, support for seedling production, The level of prosperity in the region is increasing with fallow reduction practices and the development of vegetable, grain and forage crops production. In this context, with the preparation of inventories of medicinal and aromatic plants, new income doors are opened for the local people.

In addition, in the field of "livestock", the people of the region are provided with support for large and small cattle, poultry support, freshwater products such as trout, feed seed support and barn improvements.

Within the scope of “irrigation activities”, small water resources are identified and projected, irrigation ponds are constructed, the existing irrigation infrastructure is improved, water transmission through open and closed system channels and pipes, drip irrigation and other irrigation works are carried out.

“Beekeeping” support is given to local people in areas suitable for beekeeping activities in the regions where the projects are carried out. Within the scope of the support activities, support for beehives with and without bees, detection and establishment of bee accommodation, detection and inventory of nectar-bearing plants, electro-shock wire fence support, measures against wild animals and honey forest facilities are provided.

Covers 8 main watersheds

basins; It consists of pieces of land of certain sizes that are broken up by a stream, containing unique natural resources, surrounded by mountains and hills, whose waters flow into the same sea, river or lake, separated from each other by a water separation line. According to the final point where the water is collected, the water collection area forms the closed basins. Turkey has 25 main water basins. The studies initiated by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change in 8 main water basins covering the provinces of Afyonkarahisar, Ankara, Bingöl, Burdur, Denizli, Eskişehir, Iğdır, Karaman, Konya, Kütahya, Manisa and Şanlıurfa are carried out in 19 different projects.

Latest situation in projects

While implementations continue in 19 projects out of 10 projects carried out in Afyonkarahisar, Denizli, Karaman, Konya, Kütahya and Manisa; It is planned to start the implementation activities of 9 projects covering Ankara, Bingöl, Burdur, Eskişehir, Iğdır, Manisa and Şanlıurfa provinces in the near future.
