2nd Izmir International Film and Music Festival Has Started

The 2nd Izmir International Film and Music Festival, hosted by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, General Directorate of Cinema and in cooperation with the Intercultural Art Association, has started.

Festival Director Vecdi Sayar made the opening speech of the night held at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center. In his speech, Vecdi Sayar said, “Our festival, which we started last year under pandemic conditions, will now progress much more solidly and grow. As tonight, our movie theaters will be full. With the support and ownership of the Izmir audience, it will gain the prestige that has made a name for itself.”

“Our aim is to make cinema and music speak more”

Welcoming the guests at the night, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mustafa Özuslu; “We are hosting a very important guest at our opening tonight. With his music, we remember our whole past like a film strip. We are very happy to host Mr. Zülfü Livaneli this evening and honor us. With this festival, İzmir will become much stronger in the field of culture and arts. Because our aim; To create a Turkey where cinema and music do not remain silent, on the contrary, they produce and speak more”.

Honorary Award to Zülfü Livaneli

The Festival's Honorary Awards were given to musician-writer-director Zülfü Livaneli and Polish composer Zbigniew Preisner this year. In his award speech, Zülfü Livaneli said, “Tonight we realized that flowers are blooming not only in the mountains of İzmir but also in its halls. I had really emotional moments. Izmir is beautiful in every way, different in every way. This thematic festival also suits İzmir very well.”

The Zbigniew Preisner award will be presented at the closing ceremony.

The night ended with the Zülfü Livaneli soundtrack concert performed by the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Renkm Gökmen.
