In the reactor building of the 2nd unit of Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGS), the third layer of the inner protection shell (IKK), which is one of the main elements of the plant's security system, was installed. The inner protective shell, which protects the reactor building, acts as a support for the pipe and reactor polar crane entrances used for nuclear maintenance during the operation phase of the power plant.

The third layer of the inner protection shell, consisting of a steel layer and special concrete, ensures the impermeability of the reactor building. The 3rd layer of IKK is a welded metal construction consisting of 3 sections, each of which is two separate layers consisting of 12 sections. The sections with a weight of 24 to 5 tons and a height of 7 meters are welded together, forming a single cylindrical construction with a total weight of 6 tons, a height of 321,9 meters and a perimeter of 12 meters.

After the installation of the 3rd layer, the height of the reactor building of the 2nd unit increased by 12 meters, reaching 28,95 meters. After these processes, experts will work on the welding of the 3rd and 4th layers, strengthening and concreting the shell. The sealing of the shell will be tested as soon as all parts are assembled.

It took more than 3 hours to install the 13000rd layer of inner protection shell, which is a technological process and takes time to install, to the design position using a Liebherr LR 12 heavy-duty crawler crane.

Portions of the inner protection shell are transported by sea to St. Petersburg, Akkuyu NPP was delivered to the construction site and the parts were combined into a single layer. The assembly to make the parts of the inner protection shell into a single structure took about 4 months.

In parallel with the installation of the inner protection shell in the main facilities of the second power unit, works such as the installation of the building's perimeter walls and auxiliary structure walls, as well as the installation of the reactor shaft, are continuing. used the expressions.

The reactor buildings of the power units at Akkuyu NPP are equipped with double protection shells. The reinforced concrete outer protection shell is designed to withstand extreme external factors consisting of 9 magnitude earthquake, tsunami, hurricane and their combinations.
