The Turkey qualifying of the “International Young Chefs Competition”, the organization of the La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Association, which has been providing young chefs with the opportunity to showcase their skills and creativity in the international arena since 1977, was held at Özyeğin University on Tuesday, May 10, hosted by Le Cordon Bleu.

The Turkey leg of the Young Chefs Competition, organized by the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Association for the 24th time this year, in order to encourage young chefs and to enable them to share their experience and talents in culinary arts in an international competitive environment, was hosted by the leading culinary arts institution Le Cordon Bleu at Özyeğin University. Musa Karateke from Fairmont Hotel was the winner of the competition, where 10 talented young chefs fought hard.

5 young competitors, aged less than 27, working in important 10-star hotels and restaurants in Turkey, entered a challenging gastronomy marathon at Le Cordon Bleu Center of Excellence as of the morning of 10 May. The competition started with each participant being handed a basket of materials that he did not know what was inside. Competitors prepared a menu for four people, consisting of an introduction, main course and dessert, within half an hour (30 minutes) with the ingredients in this basket, and designed the menu they prepared in portions for four people and presented them within three and a half (3,5) hours. The menus prepared and presented by the competitors in a total of four (4) hours were evaluated by the competition jury according to the criteria of taste, presentation, creativity, kitchen techniques, organizational skills, professionalism, hygiene and timing, and the winners were determined.

The winner of the competition was Musa Karateke from Fairmont Hotel, the second was Ogün Mountain from Port Istanbul Galataport, and the third was Baransel Arslan from Kilimanjaro. The winner of the competition, Musa Karateke, will represent our country in the international competition to be held in Mexico between 5-9 September 2022. Speaking at the award ceremony of the competition, Yves Léon, President of La Chaîne Des Rotisseurs Turkey, said that all the young chefs who participated in the 24th Turkey qualifiers this year were very talented, the competition was very difficult and they had difficulty in scoring. He added that the main goal of these competitions is to enable young chefs to open up to the world and improve themselves.

Our young chef, who came first, will have the opportunity to do a camp with our Le Cordon Bleu Instructor Chefs before the international competition. I sincerely believe that such competitions will both enable our Turkish Chefs to open up to the world and raise our gastronomy standards, and I congratulate all the competitors and the whole team who contributed to the organization.” said.

In the award ceremony cocktail, under the management of Le Cordon Bleu Instructor Chefs: Chef Erich Ruppen, Chef Andreas Erni, Chef Luca De Astis, Chef Marc Pauquet and Chef Paul Métay, Le Cordon Bleu students welcomed the guests with delicious canapes, and the students were selected from the jury with the delicacies they prepared. They got full marks.
