Covid-19 Leaves of Convicts Extended Until July 31, 2023

The regulation on the extension of the Covid-31 permits of convicts in open prisons, which will expire on May 19, until July 31, 2023, in the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, was added to the bill, which is being discussed in the General Assembly. The added article regarding the Covid-19 permit is 5 political parties; It was given with the joint proposal of AKP, CHP, MHP, IYI Party and HDP.

Within the scope of Covid-19 measures, the leave periods of convicts in open prisons, which will expire on May 31, are being extended.

Discussions on the Bill on Amending the Banking Law and Some Laws and the Decree Law No. 655 are continuing in the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly.

In the meetings, with the proposal submitted with the joint signature of the political party groups, an article was created regarding the extension of the leave periods of the convicts in open prisons within the scope of the Covid-31 measures, which will expire on May 2022, 19.

According to the accepted article, those in open penitentiary institutions and convicts in closed penitentiary institutions who are entitled to be allocated to open penitentiary institutions due to the Covid-19 outbreak in Turkey, convicts who are sentenced to be executed by means of probation, and probation measures. The beneficiaries will be considered on leave until 31 July 2023.

If the epidemic continues, this period may be extended 2 times, not exceeding 19 months each time, by the Ministry of Justice upon the recommendation of the Ministry of Health.
