Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu stated that Rize-Artvin Airport will open tomorrow with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and said, “Rize-Artvin Airport is beyond being an airport in many ways; It is one of the most important signs of Turkey's bright future. Our airport, which we have implemented with its unique architecture and advanced engineering technologies, is an enormous structure with an annual passenger capacity of 3 million, a total of 32 thousand square meters of indoor space, including a 47 thousand square meter terminal building and other support buildings.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu made inspections at Rize-Artvin Airport. Making a statement after the examination, Karaismailoğlu said that they are proud to bring another work to Turkey and the nation.

“Air transportation today; It doesn't just shorten distances. It does not only stimulate tourism and commerce. It also enables cultural coexistence, exchange and communication between peoples. It builds bridges of friendship between different societies,” said Karaismailoğlu, emphasizing that it is strategically important for both the social and economic well-being of the world.

Karaismailoğlu said, “We live in such an age that; whether we need education or supply… The priority of all of us in every field is now speed. And yet, the development of aviation and the strengthening of our country's position in the international arena became the main agenda of all states that want to bring their people and nation to the best in the fastest way possible. At this point, as the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, we have made great and important developments in the last 20 years with our affiliated and related organizations operating in the aviation sector. Turkish civil aviation has become a global power with our practices, policies and regulations. Opening domestic passenger transportation to competition is a milestone for the industry. Our civil aviation has entered a very rapid growth process with the policies and practices that we started with the aim of 'airline will be the way of the people' and 'every citizen will get on the plane'. On the one hand, we closely followed what was happening in the world of aviation. On the other hand, we have implemented mega projects, infrastructure and superstructure investments.”

Pointing out that the investment made in the airline sector during the AK Party governments exceeded 147 billion liras, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu noted that they have equipped Turkey with new airports that meet the needs of the era. Underlining that they have completely renovated the existing airports, Karaismailoğlu continued his speech as follows;

“We increased the number of active airports, which was 2003 in 26, to 25 with the new Tokat Airport, which we opened on 57 March. We are increasing this number to 58 with our Rize–Artvin Airport. Our Rize-Artvin Airport, which we built on an area of 3 million square meters, became Turkey's second airport, which was built by filling the sea, after Ordu-Giresun Airport. This work of ours is beyond being an economic value for Turkey; a concrete example of our world-class engineering capabilities. We have successfully completed all the manufacturing of our airport. We have the satisfaction of constructing a structure that will fully meet the airline transportation needs of the region with its 2-meter-wide and 45-meter-long runway. We are talking about an enormous structure with an annual capacity of 3 million passengers, a terminal building of 3 thousand square meters and a total indoor area of 32 thousand square meters, together with other support buildings. At the airport, which bears traces of the cultural elements of the region, we built the terminal building, which reflects the local architecture, and a 47-meter-high tower inspired by the form of a tea glass. Our tower, whose body is illuminated, will add a different vitality to the silhouette of the region. We have also taken important steps for the landscape works of our Rize-Artvin Airport, which will take its place among the few examples in the world with its technical and construction features. We have greened 36 thousand square meters of our airport, which has a landscape area of more than 19 thousand square meters, approximately the size of 135 football fields, with 49 trees that are compatible with the geographical features of the Black Sea. In order to introduce Rize tea to the whole world, and to tell about the journey of tea from the garden to the cup, together with its history and effects in the region, we have included the Tea Museum and artistic objects at our airport. In addition, our airport has a car park with a capacity of 453 vehicles.”

Pointing out that all of the airports operated by the General Directorate of State Airports Authority have the 'Accessibility Certificate', Karaismailoğlu said that they visited Rize-Artvin Airport with disabled friends, in other words, they tested it. Karaismailoğlu said, “We have witnessed together that all the necessary works are carried out at our airport in order to meet their needs without encountering any obstacles” and underlined that Turkey has moved 20 years forward with the investments realized in 100 years.

Tomorrow we add a new one to our magnificent works. Rize-Artvin Airport, which we will inaugurate with the presence of our President, is beyond being an airport in many ways; It is one of the most important signs of Turkey's bright future. Rize-Artvin Airport, which is a unique project in terms of engineering and design, is a magnificent work that will serve our nation, the environment and the country's economy with its contribution to tourism, trade and production of our country, especially in the Eastern Black Sea region. The Eastern Black Sea Region will be the hub of the transportation chain that will result from the potential traffic between Caucasian and Middle Eastern countries. Our airport is our region; It will make it one of the most important trade centers beyond Turkey, to all countries bordering the Black Sea, and between Asia and Europe. Rize will win, Artvin will win, Black Sea will win, our country will win. I sincerely believe that our airport will inspire new breakthroughs in our country and in the world.”
