Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay, who accompanied the students going to Kaşgarlı Mahmut Secondary School, which was selected as a pilot school, by bicycle, said, “Our most important priority is to ensure that our children come to school by bicycle and that they reach schools safely. In the Safe School Roads Project, which we have implemented with the Konya Model Municipality approach, the police and municipal police who will serve as bicycle service will ensure that the children's crossing route is safe and will enable them to come to school by bicycle.” said.
With the application that Konya Metropolitan Municipality has just started, students in the bicycle city of Konya will now go to school safely by bicycle.

Standing out with its exemplary practices in Konya, the city with the longest bicycle path network in Turkey with 550 kilometers, Konya Metropolitan Municipality launched the "Safe School Roads Project" in order to make the children's way to school by bicycle safer and to raise awareness about bicycles. .

PRESIDENT ALTAY ACCOMPANYED THE CHILDREN ON THE ROAD TO SCHOOL BY BICYCLE

In this context, Selçuklu Kaşgarlı Mahmut Secondary School was determined as the pilot region. Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay, Provincial Director of National Education Seyit Ali Büyük and Provincial Police Chief Engin Dinç accompanied the students going to school on bicycles in the morning.

Stating that Konya is a bicycle city and it is far ahead in Turkey in terms of bicycle path length, Mayor Altay reminded that Konya was the first city to make the Bicycle Master Plan together with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, and various activities were organized especially within the framework of the master plan. Pointing out that the most important problem for cyclists is safety, Mayor Altay said, “Unfortunately, our drivers do not see bicycles as a vehicle. This city belongs to us and the roads belong to all of us. I say this specifically as a cyclist. The safety of our children is more important than anything else. With our police, we ensure that they reach school safely with this project. But not only those who go to school; We want our vehicle drivers to be more respectful to all our children who use bicycles and to all our citizens who use bicycles, and not to use our bicycle paths as parking areas. I hope Konya will succeed in this, I trust all Konya residents. Thank you parents for trusting us. Hopefully, we will complete this process without any accident or trouble.” said.

WE WILL BE MORE METICULOUS ON BICYCLE ROADS

Provincial Police Chief Engin Dinç said, “I hope we will declare 2022 as the year of pedestrian and bicycle in Konya. The safety of our children is more important to us than anything else. From now on, we will be meticulous about our drivers' compliance with traffic rules, especially on school roads and bicycle paths. Please be more sensitive to our children and pedestrians. I would like to thank all our driver brothers in advance.”

Provincial Director of National Education Seyit Ali Büyük, on the other hand, stated that Konya is achieving more and more success in education, and said, “In this respect, the best school is the school closest to home.
