The works carried out by Tunç Soyer, the Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, to make Izmir a world city are yielding results. İzmir became a member of the World Tourism Cities Federation. Thus, İzmir took its place among the world tourism cities as the first city to be accepted into the federation from Turkey. 223 cities, which are pioneers in the tourism sector, are members of the Federation. Member cities include Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam, Dubai, Moscow and Xiamen.
Izmir is represented worldwide
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer said that with the membership, the way for İzmir to be represented worldwide as a tourism city has been paved, “The first step has been taken to promote İzmir and provide investment in İzmir at the meetings attended by the senior executives and investors of the tourism sector around the world. In addition, the opportunity to organize tourism summits in İzmir and to develop cooperation in the tourism sector with the municipalities of other tourism cities emerged. Stating that tourism is one of the most important instruments for world peace, President Soyer emphasized that they will continue to work to bring İzmir to the place it deserves in the world and to reach the target of 4 million tourists.
What is the World Tourism Cities Federation?
The World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF), which is contacted through the Foreign Relations and Tourism Department, is known as the world's first international tourism organization, formed voluntarily by famous tourism cities and tourism-related institutions in the world, with Beijing's initiative. Guided by its vision of “better city life through tourism”, WTCF organizes the world-famous Fragrant Hills Tourism Summits every year. Creating a platform for its members to exchange experiences, reinforce cooperation and build consensus, WTCF has been operating in Beijing (China), Rabat and Fez (Morocco), Chongqing (China), Los Angeles (USA), Qingdao (China) and Helsinki since 2012.
