Organized by the Bursa City Council with the support of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality and the contribution of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the 5th Bursa Traditional Handicrafts Festival, organized with the theme of 'Turkish World' this year, brought together the traditional arts of the Turkish world in Bursa.
Due to Bursa being selected as the 2022 Turkish World Capital of Culture, the Traditional Handicrafts Festival, which was held for the fifth time this year, was held with the theme of 'Turkish World'. To the festival at Merinos Atatürk Congress and Culture Center; With Adıyaman, Aksaray, Ankara, Aydın, Balıkesir, Bayburt, Bilecik, Bolu, Burdur, Bursa, Çanakkale, Düzce, Edirne, Eskişehir, Gaziantep, İçel, İstanbul, Kahramanmaraş, Manisa, Muğla, Nevşehir, Sivas, Şanlıurfa, Yalova and Zonguldak 80 artists participated in 112 art branches from Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tatarstan, Hungary and Bosnia-Herzegovina. At the opening ceremony of the festival, which started with the performance of the Mehter team; Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Alinur Aktaş, TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev, Ministry of Culture and Tourism General Directorate of Research and Education Head of Folk Culture Department Serkan Emir Erkmen, Bursa City Council President Şevket Orhan, Provincial Culture and Tourism Director Kamil Özer and BEBKA Secretary General Zeki Durak with many guests.
The legacy to be left to the world
In his speech at the opening of the festival, Metropolitan Mayor Alinur Aktaş said that Bursa is a region where the cultural values that make up the identity of the city are woven into the art world, in addition to being a fascinating place with its history. Expressing that Bursa is a city that can stand out with its industry, cultural and social life, and constantly enriches its socio-cultural life with different activities, Mayor Aktaş said, “As Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, we see our cultural and artistic values as a legacy that will be left not only to the Turkish nation, but to the whole world, in every project. we care. In our projects to transfer our local branches of art to younger generations, we undertake programs that integrate with its history and culture. 7 artists from 112 countries will have the opportunity to exhibit their works at our festival, which is organized for the fifth time this year by Bursa City Council. Hopefully, our 80 masters, 22 of whom are from abroad, will make an unforgettable festival live with workshops and shows in 112 stands. In addition, over 80 works from 2000 different branches of art will meet with art lovers. These are our future, these are our everything.”
TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev reminded that traditional arts play a major role in 'transferring culture from generation to generation'. Expressing that the works of masters who try to keep the traditional arts alive and promoted will be exhibited at this festival, Raev noted that as TURKSOY, they make an effort to transfer these values to the future.
Bursa City Council President Şevket Orhan stated that societies that have lost their culture and art are doomed to end, and said, “We honor our artists as always, and we will continue to do so. As long as we have artists, our country will always stand. I believe in this,” he said.
Serkan Emir Erkmen, Head of Folk Culture Department of the General Directorate of Research and Education of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, underlined that as the Ministry, they attach great importance to the efforts to keep traditional arts alive and transfer them to the future.
After the opening ribbon was cut, President Aktaş and the protocol members toured the stands and closely examined traditional handicrafts.
