According to the 2021 Annual Report of the Ministry of National Defense, while the number of professional soldiers in the Turkish Armed Forces has greatly increased in the last five years, the rate of those recruited under compulsory military service has decreased.

“NUMBER OF PROFESSIONAL SOLDIERS INCREASED”

According to the report of Cumhuriyet, it was stated in the report that short, medium and long-term plans were made in order for the TAF to fulfill the tasks assigned to it on time and with the most appropriate personnel, and studies were carried out to achieve the structure that will be adopted as a course of action through strategic analyzes for the future.

According to the data in the report, the number of professional soldiers, which was 2017 thousand in 156, has increased regularly in the last five years and reached 2021 in 216. On the other hand, the number of obliged parties, which was 2017 thousand in 259, increased to approximately 2021 thousand in 175. Thus, for the first time in the last five years, the number of professional soldiers exceeded the number of obliged soldiers. In 2017, approximately 38 percent of TAF personnel consisted of professional personnel, while this ratio reached 2021 percent in 55.

TOTAL NUMBER OF SOLDIERS ALSO DECREASED

Due to the decrease in the number of soldiers recruited within the scope of compulsory military service, the total number of personnel of the Ministry of National Defense has also decreased in the last five years. The number of personnel, which was 2017 thousand in 453, reached 2021 thousand as of 430.
