“We will not give up”

President Soyer said that standing up against injustice and expressing it is extremely valuable and said: “I want to say that I agree with your voice. I want to say that I agree with your stance, your reaction, your rebellion. Turkey suffers from both poverty and corruption due to lack of democracy. Everything that happens to all of us is actually a lack of democracy. That's why we have to protect democracy. Democracy is not only a political regime but also a way of life. It is a social life style that both ensures the fair distribution of wealth and protects the rule of law and fundamental rights and freedoms. Therefore, to protect democracy; this means not accepting the life sentence, 18 years imprisonment. It means to appeal. It means continuing the search for rights, the search for law, the search for justice. That's why I agree with your rebellion, I want to support. I know this injustice will end. But life is burning until it's over. People are rotting inside. He is imprisoned. Unfortunately, the search for democracy, freedom, rights, law and justice has always been a price in this country. We are ready to pay that price together. We will not give up for him. I will do whatever I can to support until the end. I congratulate you all,” he said.

“Proof of their fear of your struggle is the punishment given”

President Soyer, in a note he wrote to Mücella Yapıcı, Can Atalay and Tayfun Kahraman, who were arrested in the Gezi Case, said, “Can, Tayfun, Mücella, good days are on the horizon… The unjust and unlawful conviction you are living hurts all of us. The proof that they fear your struggle is the punishment given. They do this injustice to you not because they are strong, but because they are weak. We will never despair, and we will continue to stand by you until you regain your freedom.”
