President Altay: We Are Working To Make Konya A Technology Base

Mayor of Konya Metropolitan Municipality Uğur İbrahim Altay held a press conference on the activities and agenda in the field of science, technology and innovation carried out by Konya Metropolitan Municipality. Noting that they have put into practice a lot of work to make Konya a technology base with the Konya Model Municipality approach, Mayor Altay drew attention to the work they carry out together with ASELSAN. President Altay said, “We are planning Konya's smart city in cooperation with ASELSAN. Our main goal here is to establish domestic and national standards on smart urbanism. Hopefully, this work we have done will set an example for other cities and domestic and national practices on smart urbanism will increase. At the same time, we plan to share and market these works under the umbrella of the Union of Turkish World Municipalities.” said.

President Altay reminded that in recent years, together with the Konya Provincial Mufti, they have organized "Come to the Mosque" programs with the Konya Provincial Mufti in order to keep the spiritual values ​​alive and contribute to the growth of children with these values, and noted that they have given bicycles to 40 thousand children who attend the morning prayer for 46 days in total. President Altay said, “Even though we took a break due to the pandemic, we will continue our project from where we left off this summer and we will give our children a bicycle again, I hope. However, there are some circles who are uncomfortable with this work of ours. We are aware of why these foci are so disturbed. Unfortunately, this understanding is not the product of a new mentality. We have experienced such reactions many times in the past. But no matter what, we have never strayed from the right path. Hopefully, we will not leave this path, which is not good. Hopefully, our mosques will be chirpy this year as well, with our Come to the Mosque Project, which we will announce soon. Explaining the work they have done in the field of smart urbanism and technology as the municipality, Mayor Altay said, “We have implemented many studies since the day we took office to make Konya a technology base in accordance with the requirements of the age. In addition, our smart urban practices set an example for other cities in our country and the world.” said.

Stating that the ASELSAN Konya Weapon Systems Factory, whose location in the Technology Industry Zone was allocated by the Konya Metropolitan Municipality, has started to produce the defense systems that Turkey needs, Mayor Altay said, “We are also planning the smart city of Konya in cooperation with the Konya Metropolitan Municipality and ASELSAN. Our main goal here is to establish domestic and national standards on smart urbanism. To implement local technology-oriented plans with domestic knowledge in the field of smart urbanism. Hopefully, this work we have done will set an example for other cities and domestic and national practices on smart urbanism will increase. Thus, we will make a significant contribution to the economy and employment. At the same time, we plan to share and market these works under the umbrella of the Union of Turkish World Municipalities (TDBB). In this project, which we have completed at a rate of 80 percent, we received the opinions of approximately 500 stakeholders, consisting of various institutions and companies, through activities such as meetings and one-on-one meetings, with an inclusive approach.
