Mersin International Music Festival, one of the most important organizations introducing Mersin to the world, will be held between May 21 and June 11 with the motto "Music Unites". The introductory meeting of the festival, which will be held for the 20th time this year, was held under the main sponsorship of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality. Bengi İspir Özdülger, the Coordinator of the Cultural and Social Affairs Department of the Metropolitan Municipality and the Opera Artist, also attended the meeting held at the Divan Hotel.

Voices from the world at this festival

Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, which provides services with a culture and art friendly municipality approach, assumed the main sponsorship of the festival, where Mersin will embrace with voices from the world. Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Vahap Seçer was given a plaque for his support of the festival. his plaque; It was received by Bengi İspir Özdülger on behalf of President Seçer and from Mersin Provincial Culture and Tourism Director Cengiz Ekici, who attended the meeting on behalf of Mersin Governor.

To the meeting; Mersin International Music Festival Executive Board Chairman Selma Yağcı, representatives of district municipalities, non-governmental organizations, chambers and companies that support the festival attended. While the famous fashion designer Barbaros Şansal was among the guests of the meeting, the meeting was hosted by the famous actor Volkan Severcan. Ada Yalın Yücel, the winner of the 'Nevit Kodallı Young Talent Award', fascinated the participants with a violin concert in the program, which started with the viewing of the photographic images compiled from the festivals held in previous years and the video showing this year's festival.

The festival, which will start on May 21, will unite Mersin with art with open-air concerts and free events until June 11. Events; Mersin Cultural Center, Tarsus Baca Square, Mezitli Municipality Amphitheater, Tarsus St. Paul Museum, Toroslar Municipality Amphitheater, Yenişehir Municipality Atatürk Cultural Center, Mersin University Nevit Kodallı Concert Hall, Mezitli Municipality Cultural Center, Latin Catholic Church and Özgecan Aslan Peace Square. The artists who will take the stage will make the people of Mersin experience an unforgettable festival.

Yağcı: “We are holding our festival this year as 'Music Unites'”

Expressing that they have accomplished a difficult task with the festival they have been holding for 20 years, Mersin International Music Festival Executive Board Chairman Selma Yağcı said, “As our Mustafa Kemal Atatürk said, music is really one of our main veins. It should be given great importance in every nation. It was very difficult to hold this festival last year due to the pandemic events. But we thought, let's make such a festival so that it can reach this, touch the hearts of our people and heal it. We said 'Music Heals' and we made our festival. We are holding our festival this year as 'Music Unites'," he said. Expressing his thanks to all the institutions that supported the festival, Yağcı sang a small part of Aşık Veysel's folk song “I'm on a Long, Thin Road”.

The Festival will start with the Gala Concert

The festival, which will start with the Gala Concert of Turkey's opera stars on May 21, will feature the young talent Elif Sanchez, who will sing songs in jazz format, on May 23, and the Austrian classical music group Viener Klavier Quartett on May 24.

Ceylan Ertem, the star of Turkish Rock Music, who conquered the hearts of music lovers with his interpretation of Aşık Mahsuni Şerif's folk songs on May 25, Kerem Görsev Trio, one of the favorite ensembles of Turkish Jazz Music, on May 26, Kazakhstani master ensemble of ethnic music Turan Ethno Folk Band will meet with the famous name of pop music Zeynep Casalini and MBB City Orchestra music lovers on 28 May.

Azeri star of classical music Jamal Aliyev on May 31, young master of classical music Hasan Gökçe Yorgun (Violin) and Chinese pianist Jiao Li on June 2, famous pop music Melek Mosso on June 4, Dutch classical music singer on June 7 Utrecht String Quartet will take the stage. The festival will end on June 11 with the performance of the Istanbul Modern Dance Ensemble.
