Kula-Salihli Geopark Discussed at Turkey's First Geology Festival

The Kula-Salihli UNESCO Global Geopark Conference was held on the last day of JEOFEST'22, Turkey's first geology festival held in Izmir and sponsored by the Geopark Municipalities Union. At the conference, the importance, archaeological richness and scientific benefits of the Kula-Salihli UNESCO Global Geopark, which is the only UNESCO-labeled geopark in Turkey and the Turkic World, with a history of 3 thousand years, were mentioned. On the other hand, citizens showed great interest in the Kula-Salihli UNESCO Global Geopark stand set up in the festival area.

Kula-Salihli UNESCO Global Geopark Conference was held within the scope of Geofest'22 held in İzmir. Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Advisor Azmi Açıkdil and the conference, which was followed by many citizens, were the speakers of the conference, firstly Kula-Salihli UNESCO Global Geopark Coordinator Prof. Dr. Tuncer Demir made it. Demir informed the visitors about the only geopark in Europe, which has significant tourism potential in Manisa and Turkey. Emphasizing that the geopark does not consist only of stones or rocks, Prof. Dr. Demir stated that the past and human life also contributed to this. Adding that Kula-Salihli UNESCO Global Geopark is the only UNESCO-labeled geopark in our country and the Turkish World, Demir gave information about the history of the geopark, the area it covers, its archaeological richness and the UNESCO process. After the speech, Demir was presented with a plaque of appreciation for his contributions.

Assoc. Dr. Ahmet Serdar Aytaç Draws Attention to the Importance of Geopark

Later, Assoc. Dr. Ahmet Serdar Aytaç made a presentation titled 'Kula Salihli UNESCO Global Geopark The Role and Importance of Geoparks as a Sustainable Development Tool'. Stating that geoparks are research centers, Aytaç explained the importance of continuing scientific research. After the speeches, a plaque of appreciation was presented to President Advisor Azmi Açıkdil for their contribution and support to the festival.

Great Interest in Kula-Salihli UNESCO Global Geopark

JEOFEST'22, which was held in Kültürpark in cooperation with the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and the Izmir Branch of the Chamber of Geological Engineers, sponsored by the Union of Geopark Municipalities, lasted three days. The stand of the Kula-Salihli UNESCO Global Geopark was also included in the festival. For three days, the visitors of the fair showed great interest to the stand of the Kula-Salihli UNESCO Global Geopark. Visitors were informed about the geopark as well as the districts of Kula and Salihli.
