Head of Defense Industry Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir talked about the developments in the Turkish defense industry on NTV broadcast. Making statements about the Altay Tank, Demir said, “Our engines started to appear in various power groups. In fact, we made it mandatory to use domestic engines in new generation armored combat vehicles. In the tank engine, our domestic engine has started the tests. The integration of this engine with the transmission continues. We have integrated the power pack supplied from South Korea for the Altay Tank into our tank and the tests are continuing. The results of the tests are fine. We've also reached a place with South Korea regarding the mass production of the tank engine. We are close to the solution.” used the expressions.

BATU Power Group will be integrated into the Altay tank in 2024

Answering TurDef's questions at the DIMDEX defense fair held in Qatar, President of Defense Industry Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir gave information about the engines supplied from South Korea for the Altay main battle tank. Demir said, “The Korean engine will power the Altay Tank until the BATU is ready. We negotiate on quantity. We need to set an amount that will secure ourselves. For example, 50, 100 engines can be said. We need to talk about it, and the quantity will also affect the price. There are elements in the engine equipment that the Koreans supply from abroad. These parts will also be localized within the scope of our BATU project. We will give an advantage to Korea in this regard.” made a statement.

Mesude Kılınç, Head of SSB Engine and Power Transmission Systems Department, stated that they aim to accept BATU, which is the power group project of the Altay tank, on the tank in 2021, at the "Defense Technologies 2024" event organized by the Istanbul Technical University Defense Technologies Club.

Stating that it will be a very challenging test process, Kılınç stated that a project process will be carried out in the field, including tests of 10.000 kilometers on the tank. Stating that critical subsystems were also developed locally within the scope of the project, Mesude Kılınç said, “We attach great importance to the local development of critical subsystems. This makes our challenging project even more difficult ”.
