TÜBİTAK to Support 7 More Science Centers in Istanbul

TÜBİTAK will support 7 more science centers in Istanbul with the Local Administrations Science Centers Support Program. The protocol regarding the support was accompanied by the Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank, President of TÜBİTAK Prof. Dr. It was signed by Hasan Mandal and the mayors of Fatih, Sancaktepe, Arnavutköy, Beyoğlu, Gaziosmanpaşa, Yakutiye and Yunusemre. Minister Varank said, "We will support 4 million liras to the science centers to be established by our district municipalities within the scope of the program." said.

Minister Varank attended the signing ceremony of the protocol for the support to be allocated for 7 science centers within the scope of the Local Administrations Science Centers Support Program. Noting that these centers will provide mathematics, astronomy, aviation, space, natural sciences, robotic coding and design trainings to young people, Varank also stated that different abilities such as questioning, using technology, scientific, rational and critical thinking will be gained. Varank said, “To gain these competencies, our children, who are currently receiving practical training, are here. We will increase the sustainability of these centers with the new supports we will provide by TÜBİTAK up to 2 million liras. We started this program with 2 million liras, but our presidents say, '2 million liras is not enough'. We need to increase the number of the support program a little bit.” he said.

4 MILLION LIRA SUPPORT

Asking the mayors how much support should be, Varank said, “Within the scope of the Local Governments Science Centers Support Program, we will hopefully support our local governments with 4 million liras from now on. We have revised the program here. I would like to express my gratitude to the municipalities of Fatih, Sancaktepe, Arnavutköy, Beyoğlu, Gaziosmanpaşa, Yakutiye and Yunusemre for bringing such modern science centers to Turkey, and to TÜBİTAK for their support. I wish our support for Science Centers to be beneficial to our district municipalities, our country and especially to our youth.” used his statements.

BRIGHT STAFF OF TURKEY

Reminding that they opened Turkey's largest science center, Antalya Science Center, together with Kepez Municipality, Varank said that they added more boutique science centers and science workshops in the districts to the gigantic science centers. Noting that thousands of scientists, engineers and researchers will emerge from the country thanks to these centers, Varank emphasized that Turkey will make history with these bright staff and bright young people.

TECHNOLOGY BASE

Stating that the world is actually in a great race in new technology areas such as autonomous vehicle technologies, flying car technologies and metaverse, Varank said, “We are now in this race. Now is the time to move our country to the position it deserves. Now is the time to turn our country into a technology base. As we have said over and over, we can achieve this only by insisting, working hard and making an effort. Our country will achieve the ideal of a great and strong Turkey when all these supports we provide meet with the determination, dedication and hard work of the youth.” he said.

Recommending that this program be closely followed by the municipalities, Minister Varank said, “Come, partner with us, work with us, let's bring these science workshops from districts to neighborhoods. Let our children grow up with technology and science.” said.

A NEW PROCESS WITH 7 MUNICIPALITIES

TUBITAK President Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, on the other hand, stated that they started a new process with the 7 municipalities that they designed a year ago and that have reached the stage to receive support today, and said that science centers have more interaction than an exhibition or a museum approach, especially by the young people and children who will use this place the most, by touching and experimenting. stated that it is a point where the workshop studies for his ability to do and in that direction are strengthened.

SCIENTIFIC, RAtional, AND CRITICAL THINKING

Fatih Mayor Ergün Turan also stated that they will sign the protocol of the TÜBİTAK 4003B project and said, “In our science workshops, lessons and activities are carried out that improve our children's ability to question, use technology, and think scientifically, rationally and critically.” he said.

PROTOCOL SIGNED

After the speeches, with the participation of Minister Varank, a protocol was signed for the support to be allocated for 7 science centers within the scope of the Local Administrations Science Centers Support Program. Varank, who presented TÜBİTAK's Science Child Magazine to the students attending the ceremony, then visited the Fatih Science Center and received information about the trainings.
