İzmir's first sports festival, combined with Marathon İzmir and April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day events, witnessed colorful scenes from the first day. The four-day festival offers the opportunity to experience almost every branch of sports.
Organized within the scope of Marathonİzmir, which will be held for the third time on Sunday, April 17, by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, within the scope of 23 April National Sovereignty and Children's Day events, Sporfest İzmir started with the opening made today. İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Ertuğrul Tugay, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Services Department Head Hakan Orhunbilge, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Club President Ersan Odaman, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Commission Member Sinan Şamil. An, Ice Hockey Federation President Halit Albayrak and many athletes participated.
Sporfest İzmir, which will continue for four days, made Kültürpark feel like a festival. 12 federations started to offer the opportunity to experience different sports branches in the special areas they established. Within the scope of Sporfest İzmir events, where football training is given to girls, experience areas for canoeing, archery, ice hockey, mountaineering, 3×3 streetball, folk dance and modern dance, handball, underwater viewing, mini volleyball, sailing and cycling were created. In addition, zumba, yoga, capoeira, breathing and meditation, fit dance, bodyfit events, talks and concerts take place in Sporfest İzmir, which is colorful with tournaments and shows.
Speaking at the opening of Sporfest İzmir, where İzmir clubs and non-governmental organizations set up stands, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Ertuğrul Tugay thanked all the participants and said, “The festival within the scope of Marathon İzmir will add a different color to İzmir for four days.” Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç SoyerStating that the vision of Izmir to make Izmir a city of youth and sports is very important, Tugay said, “Beautiful Izmir, with its beaches, coast and unique nature, is a favorite city not only of our country, but of the whole world. We aim to make this beautiful city the capital of youth and sports. Marathon İzmir is one of the most important steps of this goal. With the disappearance of the effect of the pandemic, our number of participants will increase and we will have the opportunity to see many more elite athletes in İzmir. I will be at the starting point that will be given on Sunday morning, April 17th. I finished the first two marathons, I will try to finish it again," he said.
One of the most important events within the scope of Sporfest İzmir will be the Children's Run, organized for the first time this year. 16 children born between 2008 and 2012 will experience running and each will receive a commemorative medal at the race to be held in Kültürpark on April 650.
