Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Demir said that the use of lithium battery electric buses with a fast charging system, which is the first in Turkey to be commissioned, in the public transportation system will increase energy efficiency and reduce noise pollution as they are quiet.

In Samsun's public transportation services, preparations are underway for the use of renewable energy resources instead of fossil fuel transportation vehicles and electric buses with fast charging feature, which is the first in Turkey, in a 47.5 kilometer corridor between Çarşamba Airport and Taflan district of Atakum, and alternatively, on various lines in the city.

In this context, 20 12-meter electric buses will serve in the first stage between Atakum-Taflan and District Transfer Center - Çarşamba Airport, which is planned taking into account route analysis, driver behavior and stop-hop-off analysis.

6 OF 3 CHARGING STATIONS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED

A total of 6 450 KW charging stations will be installed in the project. It is foreseen that electric buses can also serve on alternative lines, and the construction of three energy supply and backup power units at Taflan, Ondokuz Mayıs University, District Transfer Center, Bus Station, Canik Soğuksu and Çarşamba Airport locations has been completed. Energy supply and backup power unit construction at Ondokuz Mayıs University, District Transfer Center and Bus Station is also continuing.

Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Demir stated that the Ultra Fast Chargeable electric buses working with Renewable Energy Systems, which will be the first application in Turkey, are an important step in the transformation of the city into rubber-tyred public transportation vehicles working with renewable energy.

AWARENESS WILL BE CREATED

Emphasizing that the low emission values of electric vehicles will lead to a decrease in air pollution, President Demir said, “With the implementation of this system, it is aimed to prevent an average of 200 thousand kg of carbon emissions. The use of electric buses that can use renewable energy in the public transportation system will increase energy efficiency and reduce noise pollution in cities as they are quiet. In addition, the use of electric vehicles is important in terms of displaying an innovative approach in metropolitan cities with heavy traffic and raising awareness, especially local governments, on the axis of the concept of sustainability in transportation.
