The General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs (NVIGM) stated that the claim on social media that 'e-Government data leaked, identity photos and current addresses are among the leaked data' is a kind of phishing and fraud method, and said, No defect has been found. In addition, photo-chip ID card images are not included in NVIGM databases.
In a written statement from the General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs, “In the evaluation of the operations carried out by the Cyber and Intelligence units of our security organization 3 months ago; It is seen that such posts are a method of phishing and fraud, and the same issues are brought to the agenda again and it is tried to give the appearance of a leak by placing photos and personal information of our state elders on the chip ID cards through image editing programs and sharing them.
CRIME WILL BE REPORTED
While it was stated that our Ministry will file a criminal complaint against those who spread unfounded news that incite citizens to panic, the following statements were included in the continuation of the statement:
“Central Population Management System (MERNIS) is an intranet (closed circuit) system, closed to the internet environment. For all systems, including MERNIS, which is carried out by the General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs, penetration tests are carried out by different independent companies on a continuous and regular basis every year. As a result of the tests performed, it was reported that the security systems of NVIGM were very good, and it was determined that there was no weakness for data leaking. In addition, photo chip ID card images are not included in NVIGM databases. A criminal complaint will be filed by the General Directorate of Legal Services of our Ministry against the person or persons who spread such unfounded news, which is intended to undermine the trust in the institutions of the state and cause our citizens to panic.”
E-GOVERNMENT: CLAIMS OF DATA LEAKAGE DO NOT REFLECT THE REALITY
The Presidential Digital Transformation Office e-Government Gateway also said in a statement on the subject, "The allegations of e-Government Gateway data leaks do not reflect the truth." In the statement, it was stated that the identity card images of the citizens were not found at the e-Government Gate, “The measures that can be taken for the individual, the main subject of cyber security, form the basis of our national cyber security. The measures to be taken by individuals regarding data privacy, password and device security while using digital media are the most effective protection methods.
USOM: TENS OF SITES ARE BLOCKED WHILE SHOWING HARMFUL ACTIVITY
In the statement made by the National Cyber Incidents Response Center (USOM), it is stated that sites that produce fake ID cards are blocked, and said, “Websites producing fake ID cards have been detected by our USOM teams before and access to dozens of websites with similar harmful activities is blocked. Apart from this, it is recommended that users always be vigilant against fake websites and malicious software used to seize the login information of individuals' websites.
