Ankara Metropolitan Municipality continues the restoration works that it started in many parts of the city in order to bring the historical places that shed light on the history of the capital to tourism and to bring them to the value they deserve.

Within the scope of the "Archaopark Project", the Department of Cultural and Natural Heritage will bring the area on the left side of the Roman Theater, where waterways and many historical layers belonging to the Roman Period were unearthed during the excavations, to tourism as an 'Open Air Museum'.

LAYERS OF THOUSANDS OF YEARS SHINE LIGHT IN HISTORY

While the excavations were initiated in cooperation with the Anatolian Civilizations Museum in the area located within the borders of the Ulus Historical City Center Urban Site, important findings that shed light on the Roman Period were found.

As the countdown begins to bring the Archeopark region, where settled areas dating back to 2 years ago, to the tourism of the Capital, begins, in the area that will shed light on Anatolian history in the Open Air Museum concept; indoor and outdoor exhibition areas, amphitheater, sitting corners, educational and educational playgrounds for children, a viewing terrace, a viewing cafe, a welcome center and places where the historical stones unearthed during the excavations will be exhibited.

In the project, where the understanding of the museum will be carried one step further, digital data and interactive information from the Roman Period will also be introduced.

SPECIAL HISTORICAL PLACE TO WATCH THE SUNSET

Mehmet Akif Güneş, Director of the Department of Cultural and Natural Heritage, Application and Inspection Branch, said that they carried out the works in the Archeopark area with great care.

“The area within the borders of Ulus Historical City Center Urban Protected Area has the feature of being a 1st and 2nd degree archaeological site. That's why we carry out our work with great care and sensitivity. Together with the Roman Theatre, we will have an 'Open Air Museum' application on an area of 17 thousand square meters. Currently, the rubble and excavations are being removed, and we are conducting our excavations sensitively in cooperation with the Anatolian Civilizations Museum, in line with the Venice Charter and the Decisions of the Conservation Board. A beautiful sunset is forming here, and there will be places where it can be watched comfortably. We will also exhibit quality stones from the Roman and Ottoman Periods here. This is actually an area intertwined with the Roman Theater and has a history of 2 years. With the Roman Period, we want to bring the Archeopark back to its feet and bring it to tourism. Because Ankara has very special and important artifacts from the Roman period.”

When the works are completed, all domestic and foreign tourists visiting the Archeopark Open Air Museum will have the chance to discover the historical layers of the Capital.
