Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, which continues its search for new markets in order for Bursa to get a bigger share from tourism, this time hosted Sri Lankan tour operators and agency representatives in Bursa.

Sri Lankan tourism in Bursa promotion program organized with the contributions of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, Bursa Culture, Tourism and Promotion Association, TÜRSAB Southern Marmara Regional Representative Board, (BUSAT) Bursa Health Tourism Association and (GÜMTOB) Southern Marmara Touristic Hoteliers and Operators Association and Artic Hotel professionals came together in Bursa.

Within the scope of the program, which continued for two days, the cultural and touristic focal points of Bursa and the destination alternatives of the city were explained to Sri Lankan tourism professionals.

Bursa Promotion Program and B2B Meeting held at Artic Hotel, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor and Bursa Honorary Consul of the Republic of Sri Lanka Ahmet Yıldız, Head of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Foreign Relations and Tourism Department Abdulkerim Baştürk, TÜRSAB Headquarters Board Member Hasan Eker, TÜRSAB Güney Marmara Region Representative Board Chairman Murat Saracoğlu, BUSAT-Bursa Health Tourism Association President Dr. Metin Yurdakoş and GÜMTOB Deputy Chairman of the Board Buğra Artic.

Increasing the target number

Speaking at the event, where B2B meetings were held between Bursa companies and Sri Lankan tourism professionals, TÜRSAB South Marmara BTK President Murat Saraçoğlu said that after the pandemic, people started to demand different destinations. Expressing that Sri Lanka is one of these destinations, Saraçoğlu said, “The touristic activity between Turkey and Sri Lanka is very low. According to 2019 data, 2000 people went to Sri Lanka from Turkey. About 1600 people from Sri Lanka came to our country. I hope that after this visit, the mobility in tourism will revive even more.”

Abdülkerim Baştürk, Head of the Department of Foreign Relations and Tourism of the Metropolitan Municipality, also noted that they are trying to announce the values ​​​​of Bursa to the whole world with such programs they organize in cooperation with TÜRSAB.

Ahmet Yıldız, Deputy Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality and Honorary Consul of the Republic of Sri Lanka in Bursa, stated that they are trying to highlight not only the historical and natural beauties but also the advantages in fields such as industry, agriculture and health. Noting that Bursa has great advantages in every field, Yıldız said, “We have recently opened the Sri Lanka Honorary Consulate General office, which we see as one of Bursa's gateways to the world. Thus, we are trying to establish strong economic, cultural and social ties between Sri Lanka and Turkey and especially Bursa. I would like to express that it would be beneficial to carry out serious studies between Bursa and Sri Lankan tourism professionals for the development of tourism in both countries,'' he said.
