While 60 percent of those who have a driver's license use a new type of driver's license, the number of people using a chip ID card with a driver's license has increased to 3 million 31 thousand 930.

With the new type of driver's license in Turkey, since January 1, 2016, 19 million 635 thousand 692 people who renewed their licenses or got their license for the first time, became the owners of the "new type of driver's license".

As of April 2022, there are 32 million 321 thousand 21 driver's license holders in Turkey. Accordingly, 60% of drivers hold a new type of driver's license.

More than 66 Million People Use Chip Identity Cards

The distribution of new chip ID cards with "inimitable visual and electronic security" features started on 14 March 2016 in Kırıkkale.

According to the latest data of TUIK, the share of chip ID card holders in Turkey's population exceeding 84 million has reached 78%.

With the application, which was spread throughout the country in the process, the number of people using chip ID cards has exceeded 66 million.

New Type Driver's Licenses Can Be Uploaded to Chip Identity Cards

The "Life is Easy with Your Identity" Project, which eliminates the obligation of citizens to have a driver's license with them and involves loading new types of driver's licenses on ID cards with chips, was launched on September 21, 2020.

With the application, 3 million 31 thousand 930 people who have a new type of driver's license so far have their driver's license loaded on their chip ID card.

Optional process can be done free of charge by making an appointment with the population directorates.

57% of Passports with Chip

Since April 2, 2018, when second-generation passports made of polycarbonate material containing chips were introduced to prevent counterfeiting, 7 million 639 thousand 957 people were given new generation passports.

The rate of second generation passport holders among passport holders was approximately 57%.
