Saraykapı Opened to Pedestrian Traffic

Saraykapı, which was closed to traffic by Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality due to restoration works, has been reopened for pedestrians.

The restoration works carried out by the Metropolitan Municipality with the motto of “Resurrection in the Walls” continue at full speed in Diyarbakır Castle, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

As part of the emergency response in Saraykapı, the Department of Reconstruction and Urbanization carried out repair work at the gates where pedestrians pass, threatening the safety of life and property.

After interventions such as reinforcing the stones at risk of falling, joint construction and facade cleaning, the barriers were removed and Saraykapı was opened to pedestrian traffic again.

Restoration of the inner castle walls, Phase 2

Within the scope of the works carried out, 11 bastions were restored and the retaining walls of Amida Höyük were carried out, extending from Saraykapı to the outer wall of Hevsel.

Archaeological excavations aimed at lowering the elevation and landscaping of the areas between the Amida Höyük and İçkale walls, uncovered the entrances of the underground bastions and the 2000-year-old "Roman Road".

During the excavations on the west side of AmidaHöyük, the gates of 3 bastions in İçkale were unearthed.
