President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in his statement after the cabinet meeting, stated that one of the areas in which Turkey has made the greatest progress is the aviation sector.

Expressing that with the investments made, the number of airports from 26 all over Turkey has been increased to 57, Erdoğan said that this opportunity is provided by filling the sea for cities that do not have suitable land to build airports so that no corner of the homeland is deprived of this service.

Reminding that Ordu-Giresun Airport was built and put into service in this way before, Erdoğan stated that the Rize-Artvin Airport, which was built on the land obtained by filling the sea, has reached the completion stage.

Expressing that when Rize-Artvin Airport becomes operational, the Eastern Black Sea region, which had difficulties in road transportation due to its geographical features, would be an easily accessible place for everyone, continued his words as follows:

“Hopefully, we will open our Rize-Artvin Airport on May 14. Passengers going to the Eastern Black Sea region and Georgia from domestic and international destinations will now be able to use this airport. In addition to the conveniences it provides to our own citizens, our airport will also strengthen the political, social and economic connection between us and the countries in the region. Thanks to the fast and comfortable transportation opportunities, the natural beauties and human riches of the Eastern Black Sea Region, which enchant those who see and lament those who do not, will be brought to our economy through tourism.

We do not stop there, Bayburt Gümüşhane Airport continues rapidly. Hopefully we will finish it as soon as possible. Meanwhile, we will finish Yozgat Airport as soon as possible. We will bring it to our country and our nation.”

Reminding that the foundation of the airport, which was built by filling the sea in Yeşilköy region of Pazar district of Rize, was laid in April 2017, Erdoğan stated that after the landscaping is completed, it will have an airport that Rize and Artvin will use jointly.

Reminding that Gaziantep Airport's new terminal was put into service in December and Tokat Airport was put into service in March, President Erdoğan said, "We have placed 6 new airports or terminal buildings at the disposal of our nation in just the last 3 months." he said.

Stating that Rize-Artvin, which was built on an area of 3 million square meters by filling the sea, will be the 57th airport of Turkey, with the runway, apron and all infrastructure manufacturing completed, Erdoğan noted that Rize-Artvin Airport will be the fifth of the 5 airports in the world built by filling the sea. .

Emphasizing that this airport is a monument of pride for its region and Turkey, with its annual capacity of 3 million passengers, 3 kilometers of runway, 3 taxiways, 3 aprons, a terminal building of 32 thousand square meters, a car park with a capacity of 448 vehicles, Erdoğan said that with its terminal building in accordance with the local architecture, it can reach a height of 36 meters. He also stated that the tower, which was designed with inspiration from the tea glass, adds a different atmosphere to the airport.

Erdoğan stated that there will also be a tea museum to promote Rize tea to the whole world, and to tell about the journey of tea from the garden to the cup, along with its history and effects in the region.

President Erdoğan wished Rize-Artvin Airport to be beneficial to the country, nation and region, and congratulated everyone who contributed to the realization of the work.
