Village Institutes Celebrated their 82nd Anniversary with a Special Program

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) celebrated the establishment of Village Institutes, which was opened on April 82, 17, 1940 years ago to train teachers for schools, with a special program. Organized for Village Institutes, one of the most important projects of the Republic, Ekrem İmamoğluVillage Institutes, which is a bedside book, was also introduced in the program hosted by . Speaking at the program, İmamoğlu said that the Village Institutes continue to be my guide in the search for education reform, even after 82 years. İBB President, “Because Village Institutes were established with a "scientific methodology" first of all. It has been specially designed for the needs of our country,” he said.

Noting that while 85 percent of the country lives in villages, Village Institutes aim to develop Anatolia with their own children, İmamoğlu said, “Aiming to ensure equality in education by delivering free education to the farthest corners of our country. In this respect, the institutes were a window to the light for the children of the poor and female students. It enabled many flowers to bloom in the steppe,” he said.

Stating that the Village Institutes set out to provide quality education in the light of reason and science, İmamoğlu said that the education program has turned into a puzzle today. Stating that the field of education is the scene of political conflicts, it causes a sad picture for our country, İmamoğlu used the following statements:

“Today, we are in a situation where the right to education is tried to be destroyed by the policies of the marketization of education, the rates of private schools are increasing, and our citizens and especially parents are unhappy by almost eighty-five percent. We should prepare an up-to-date project with the philosophy of Village Institutes for the children and youth of our country, for the segments of society who cannot benefit from the right to education before it is too late. Otherwise, we will have to go to the last place among the countries of the world.”

I WISH IT HAD GOED LONGER…

Sharing that İBB Publishing's new book, Village Institutes, finds the valuable institution of the Republic, Village Institutes valuable in terms of transferring it to future generations, İmamoğlu said, “I also wish it to be crowned with a new education system with a new model that meets today's needs. I hope the book will contribute to that process. I respectfully commemorate all institutes, especially Hasan Ali Yücel and İsmail Hakkı Tonguç. I sincerely thank them on behalf of our country. It is good that they brought such an institution to this country. Fortunately, they lit a precious light. They sowed a seed. I wish it had taken longer. I wish later that institutions and organizations that are more oriented to the needs of the day could be added on top of it.”

ENLIGHTENMENT AWARD GIVEN TO ERDAL ATABEK

Ethem Duygulu, President of the New Generation Village Institutes Association, in his speech in the program, stated that they have been working for 21 years to raise the reality of Village Institutes to the level of national awareness, and said, “We are working for a good future, a good country and a world with determination and faith. Don't let our light of enlightenment go out," he said.

In the program, the traditional “Enlightenment Honor Award” given by the New Generation Village Institutes Association was given to Erdal Atabek. Saying that he accepted the award on behalf of everyone who fights for free thought, Erdal Atabek's words "My greatest gratitude to my great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk" received great applause.

The Village Institutes book published by İBB Publishing was prepared under the coordination of Kemal Kocabaş. In the work consisting of 568 pages, Güzel Yücel Gier, Firdevs Gümüşoğlu, Ahmet Yıldız, Yakup Kepenek, Semiha Özalp Günal, Niyazi Altunya, Binnur Yeşilyaprak, Songül Sallan Gül, Alper Akçam, Gülsen Ünver, Ayfer Kocabaş, Oğuz Makal, Figen Kıvılcım Çorakbaş, Hasan Karaman, Many intellectuals and academics, such as Murat Aydoğmuş and Tayfun Atay, are experts in their fields.
