Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Environmental Protection and Control Department produced nests specially for migratory birds. 17 stork nests, all of which were recycled from waste materials, were installed in the determined neighborhoods in Güdül and Beypazarı districts in cooperation with Nature Research Association volunteers.

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, which has implemented many projects that respect the environment, has also signed a nature-friendly project for migratory birds.

The Environmental Protection and Control Department made special nests for migratory birds using materials produced by recycling waste materials in its own workshops. Collaborating with the volunteers of the Nature Research Association, the Metropolitan Municipality mounted 17 nests in the determined neighborhoods in Beypazarı and Güdül.

SAFE NEST FOR STORKS FROM THE CAPITAL

The Environmental Protection and Control Department, which took action to create special living spaces for the areas on the migration route of storks, known as the heralds of spring, turned the idle irons into a nest by giving them a round form.

While the nests with a carrying capacity of approximately 1 tonne are made ready by painting, the storks that face the danger of electric shock by nesting on the power transmission lines will now be able to live in better conditions thanks to the safe nests built by the Metropolitan Municipality.

HAND IN HAND WITH VOLUNTEERS

The Environmental Protection and Control Department, in cooperation with the volunteers of the Nature Research Association, who examines the migration routes of storks that also stay in the capital city before migrating to hot countries, aims to ensure the sustainability of the stork population and their nesting in the capital.

Furkan Ton stated that they helped to place pruned tree branches and greenery in the nests produced throughout Ankara, and that they cooperated with the Metropolitan Municipality to protect the extinction of storks and other bird species and to live in healthy environments.

“We are carrying out this project with the support of ABB. We build stork nests and nests for different bird species in different districts of Ankara. We completed the stork nests and assembled them in the areas we observed. We would also like to thank the Metropolitan Municipality, Güdül and Beypazarı Municipality. They all have their own efforts.”

One of the volunteers, Evren Yavuzcan, stated that they installed the platforms prepared with the metropolitan teams in Güdül Yeşilöz and Güneyce Neighborhoods, which are accepted as natural protected areas for the breeding and accommodation of storks, and Beypazarı Akçakavak and Kayabüklü Neighborhoods. Especially at this time when storks start to migrate. We are collaborating to complete the missing nests and to ensure that more storks can easily nest and adapt quickly.”
