A 21-year-old teenager pursuing an arts education in The Hague, Netherlands, sold his “soul” as NFT. The soul of the art student went for just $377.

Stijn van Schaik sold NFT on the digital marketplace OpenSea. Schaik's page on OpenSea reads: “Hello human, welcome to my profile. I'm selling my soul here. Don't hesitate to ask anything about me or my soul while you still have it."

Calling himself "Stinus", Stijn also launched a website for his initiative. There is a contract on the site that states the ways in which the spirit can be used. Among the things a soul buyer can do are:

  • Claiming to own the spirit in question.
  • Full or partial transfer of the soul to a person or institution for any reason.
  • Sacrificing it, in whole or in part, to a god or a spiritual being.
  • The use of the soul for a purpose that will reduce its value, quantity, or essence, or incorporate it into a greater whole.
  • The contract states that "in the event that the 'soul' of Stinus does not exist independently, as is commonly defined in some belief systems" or "if this belief reflects reality", the contract will remain valid.

The 21-year-old student prepared the 9-page contract with author Liminal Warmth.

Stijn says he wants to introduce different forms of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.

According to Crypto Insiders, the “soul” was mined on the Ethereum-compatible Polygon platform.

The current value of NFT, which was sold for 0,15 ETH or 377 dollars, is 1040 ETH or 3 million 672 thousand dollars.

In January 2022, another Indonesian university student, Sultan Gustaf al-Gozali, sold the selfies he took for 5 years to NFT. Gozali earned $1 million from the sale.

What is NFT?

With its abbreviation, “non-fungible token” is generally described as “inexchangeable money or chip” in Turkish.

NFT's being original and unique prevents it from being imitated and copied. For this reason, it is often used in the sale of digital assets and works of art.

NFTs of many different types of assets can be produced and offered for sale, such as a post on Twitter, a piece of art, or gadgets in a digital game.

Digital marketplaces where these are displayed and auctioned include virtual platforms such as OpenSea, Decentraland, Rarible and Nifty Gateway.
