Organized for the second time this year by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, the Izmir International Film and Music Festival begins on Friday, June 10. Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer, expressing that they are looking forward to the festival, said, “We are bringing the cinema-music relationship, which is a neglected area, to the agenda. Our aim is to bring the cinema and music industries together in İzmir. Due to the 100th anniversary of the liberation of İzmir, it will appear before the audience with a rich program that includes more than 100 feature films.” The festival will last until 19 June.

Organized in cooperation with the Intercultural Art Association, the Izmir International Film and Music Festival will be in front of the audience with a rich program that includes more than 100 feature films on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the liberation of Izmir. The opening of the festival, whose director is Vecdi Sayar, will be held on the evening of June 10, 2022, at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center with a music concert by Zülfü Livaneli, to be performed by the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Renkm Gökmen.

Short Film Project Competition

As part of the Izmir International Film and Music Festival, the "Music Short Film Project Competition" is organized to encourage production in this field, considering the low number of short films about the art of music in our country. Short film projects in the genre of fiction, documentary or animation can participate in the competition, which has no age restriction for participation. The competition includes three stages; At the first stage, participants are asked for brief synopses and treatments of their projects, as well as information about the project owner's CV, the genre of the film and where they want to shoot the film. 10 projects to be selected

The projects participating in the competition were composer Cumhur Bakkan, documentary director and short film festival director Hilmi Etikan, screenwriter-director Işıl Özgentürk, academician Prof. Lale Kabadayı will be evaluated by director Nihat Durak, cinematographer and director Tahsin İşbilen and festival director Vecdi Sayar. 10 projects will be selected. 10 thousand TL award will be given to the selected project owners. Half of this amount will be given to the project owners at the end of the competition, and the other half when the films are completed and presented at the 2023 festival. In the second stage of the competition, the directors of the selected projects will participate in the five-day "Project Development Workshop" to be held as part of the Izmir International Film and Music Festival.

In the workshop, jury members will share their thoughts and suggestions on projects within the framework of their fields of expertise. Project owners, who will complete the shooting and rough editing of their films during the summer months, will attend a second workshop to be held as part of the “International Mediterranean Cinemas Meeting” to be held in Izmir in November. Here, the films will be evaluated in terms of editing. The project owners, who will then complete their films by making additional shots or reworking the editing if necessary, will submit their films by April 1, 2023. The films will meet the audience at the 2023rd Izmir International Film and Music Festival, which will be held in June 3.
