Izmir Metropolitan Municipality participated in the Seed Support project initiated by Susuz Mayor Oğuz Yantemur to combat the damage that occurred in the agricultural production areas of Kars due to drought and sent 105 tons of barley and wheat seeds.
President Tunç Soyerhad brought the seed aid to the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Council last month with an emergency code. With the call of Soyer in the Assembly, 25 tons of support will be provided from the district municipalities.
“Supports need to grow together”
Stating that he is becoming more and more aware of the effects of the climate crisis, President Soyer said, “What we are going through is just the beginning. That's why we have to be more determined in the fight together. In these days when it is getting harder to reach safe food, our farmers, who are struggling with the economic crisis in many parts of our country, especially in Kars, have difficulties in producing seeds. Serious grievances are experienced due to the increase in seed prices. These supports must grow together. The seed crisis in Anatolia is no different from an earthquake, flood or fire. Just like in an earthquake, we will heal the wounds together in a drought. Today is the day of solidarity again," he said.
“We will ensure that our farmer sows”

During this period, we met with Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and other municipalities. Tunç President emphasized that the producer is in a very difficult situation as input prices have increased and said that he will help. They provided support through the Agricultural Credit Cooperative by making purchases. We will ensure that our farmers plant these seeds with a contract," he said.
“Seed support will prevent migration”
Drawing attention to the importance of this support due to the increase in seed and other input prices, Yantemur continued: “Our people will meet both their own needs and the needs of their animals. This will also be an obstacle to migration. Because when people cannot feed themselves and their animals here, they are forced to migrate to Istanbul, Izmir and metropolitan cities. There, too, this time it causes another problem. That's why it has to be resolved locally. This solidarity is very important. We couldn't have done this on our own.
