TCDD General Manager Explained the Intelligent Transportation Vision of Akbaş Railways

Participating as a speaker at the SUMMITS 3rd International Turkey Intelligent Transportation Systems (AUS) Summit, opened by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu, Metin Akbaş, General Manager of the Republic of Turkey State Railways (TCDD), made a presentation on "Smart and Sustainable Transportation in Railways". Emphasizing the need for safe, secure, fast and environmentally friendly transportation, Akbaş said, "We are at a good point today, I can confidently say that our future will be much better than today as we see the projects that have been implemented and planned." said.

A seminar on 'Smart and Sustainable Transportation' was held on the second day of the SUMMITS 3rd International Turkey Intelligent Transportation Systems (AUS) Summit held at the Information Technologies and Communication Institution. TCDD General Manager Metin Akbaş, who attended the seminar as a speaker, gave information to the local and foreign guests about the 'Smart and Sustainable Vision of Railways'. Pointing out that an important pillar of a sustainable transportation system is the policies aimed at reducing or eliminating the effects of global climate change experienced in recent years, Akbaş said that the Smart Transportation Systems Strategy Document and Action Plan prepared by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure is very important in ensuring a sustainable railway. stressed that.

“When the requirements of both national and international legislation are evaluated, it is seen that there is a need to increase the share of railway transportation, which is an environmentally friendly transportation system with less land use, low carbon emissions, and thus a balanced distribution among transportation modes.” Akbaş said, “Within the framework of these policies, with a holistic environmental approach, they attach great importance to the more effective and efficient use of energy resources for less greenhouse gas in railways and to increase renewable energy investments. TCDD General Manager Akbaş continued his speech as follows: “We see the development of a railway infrastructure supported by 'Smart Transportation Systems' as essential for the transportation sector in order to use the railway capacity effectively and efficiently, to increase mobility, to ensure energy efficiency and to reduce the damage to the environment. As TCDD, we continue our efforts to create a high-standard railway infrastructure.”

SIGNAL LINE RATE IS RISING

Reminding that they have implemented many projects in line with both the development plan and other strategic documents, Metin Akbaş said that with the opening of the Konya-Karaman High Speed Train line, the total line length increased to 213 thousand 219 kilometers, with 11 kilometers of high speed, 590 kilometers of fast and 13 thousand 22 kilometers of conventional. explained. Akbaş also gave information about electrification and signaling works and said, "While we are building new high-speed and high-speed train lines, we are also continuing the renovation and modernization works of our existing lines. In this context, our electrified lines have reached 5 kilometers, thus 986 percent of our lines have been electrified. Currently, we continue to work on the construction of the 47 kilometer line, the tender for the 847 kilometer line, and the project preparation and planning for the 545 thousand 3 kilometer section. Significant progress has been made in the signaling projects, which we also attach great importance to, and the length of the signaled line has reached 61 thousand 7 kilometers. We increased our signal line rate to 94 percent. Construction work on a 55 kilometer line, tender work on 595 kilometers, and project preparation and planning on a 152 thousand 2 kilometer line continue.” said. Akbaş also noted that they have expanded the National Signaling System, developed in cooperation with TÜBİTAK BİLGEM, on the lines.

WE PRODUCE OUR OWN ENERGY

Stating that they continue to work on the creation of a strong energy infrastructure with renewable energy sources, TCDD General Manager Metin Akbaş said, “For this purpose, we first started the preparation of the 'Energy Management and Climate Change Action Plan'. In the action plan in question, we determined 3 goals, 11 targets and 29 actions within the scope of 142 themes that we determined as "green transportation on the railway", "zero carbon future" and "reliable energy supply". We have started our studies to produce the energy we consume from renewable energy. In this context, we established a solar power plant in İzmir Basmane Station and Selçuk. By accelerating our efforts with the Energy Management and Climate Change Action Plan, we will achieve the target of meeting 12 percent of the energy we consume from renewable energy sources in the medium term of 4-10 years, which we set at the 35th Transport and Communications Council.” he said.

Explaining the great change in the railways to the guests with graphics, TCDD General Manager Metin Akbaş concluded his speech as follows: Considering the need for safe, secure, fast and environmentally friendly transportation at this point, I believe that railways should be in a much better place in the future. We are at a good point today, I can confidently say that our tomorrow will be much better than today, as we see the projects that have been implemented and planned.”
