The Ministry of National Education, in cooperation with TÜBİTAK and universities, took action for a project that would adapt the learning of mathematics to daily life skills and make it easier for students to learn and enjoy this course from a young age. Stating that they will change the learning approach in mathematics, Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer said, “With the new approach, we aim for our students to learn mathematics with love and adapt it to life.” said.
Ministry of Education; It will implement many innovations to support permanent learning in Turkish, foreign language and mathematics courses.
In this context, despite the long course hours in the curriculum, the deficiencies in teaching the 4 basic skills of reading, comprehension, listening and writing to students in a foreign language were eliminated, and studies were started to develop new teaching techniques and bring new dynamics to this course.
Similarly, new studies on the teaching of Turkish and the development of reading culture gained momentum. While the project “There will be no school without a library” was completed, plans were also made to help students gain reading habits and improve their vocabulary through activities to be carried out in libraries.
“We aim to make students love mathematics”
In addition to these two lessons, we have reached the final stage in the preparation of a new project that will make mathematics lessons enjoyable and facilitate learning.
The aim of the project, which will be carried out jointly with TÜBİTAK and universities, is to remove mathematics from being an abstract course and to provide permanent and loving learning by adapting it to daily life skills.
Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer, in his evaluation on the subject, said: “We will change the learning approach in mathematics. With a new approach, we aim for our students to learn mathematics with love and adapt it to life. Our students will develop their projects, constantly improve the project with the feedback they receive, and thus continuous learning will be ensured. Our approach in the mathematics lesson is to save students from the pile of soft information and turn that information into practical things in life to ensure that they learn permanently. This is what is meant by 21st century skills. In other words, we want to enable our students to produce more by teaching information literacy without drowning in the knowledge pool. We want mathematics to cease to be a difficult subject that only talented students can handle, but to be an enjoyable subject where all students can enjoy and reconcile with daily life.”
Minister Özer stated that they will carry out joint studies with TÜBİTAK and universities within the scope of mathematical mobilization, adding that they have reached the final stage in the cooperation protocol with TÜBİTAK and that they are working with UNICEF for a new project.
