The "Pirate Book Purchase Painting Contest", "Idea Marathon", "Contribution to Turkish Culture" and "Istanbul Copyright Awards", which were given as part of the Istanbul International Publishing Week, were presented to their owners at the ceremony.
Attending the ceremony held at Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM), Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy stated that writers and publishers answered this search long before the reader knew what he was looking for.
Pointing out that there are works written on every topic from the past to the present, Ersoy said, “We know that a distinguished mind who dealt with that subject in a much more detailed way before us has already written the book; A publisher who understands its value has published the work.” said.
Minister Ersoy emphasized the importance of the events organized during the publishing week and said, “Istanbul International Publishing Week came to life with you both as a thank you to the workers of the sector and with the idea of creating an environment where experiences will be shared, ideas will be exchanged, communication and relations will be established for today and tomorrow of publishing.” used the expressions.

Ersoy noted that they want broadcasting to keep up with the changes in the world, to respond effectively to the needs and to make its own value permanent with the right projects, complete services and products.
“It is a responsibility that all of us must shoulder to show the respect and value that they deserve, especially copyrights, to the works that have been prepared and published with a long time and effort. Not so long ago, maybe two or three generations ago, we were aware that reading a book and owning an edition are very different things. The second-hand booksellers aroused excitement like a treasure chest, and the old books on their pages made their owner feel special. Publishing was a breathless race to discover the source of these feelings and to bring them together with people. We are obliged to teach our children these values attributed to the author, the work and the publisher. This is not something to be learned from the phone or computer screen. Before it's too late, we must start putting books in our children's hands, not phones, and guiding them so that they can behave themselves."
Noting that the publishing industry in Turkey has made significant progress in the recent period, Ersoy said, “As of the end of 2021, the number of book titles produced by our publishing industry has increased to 87 thousand 231 and the number of books to approximately 438 million. Despite the stagnation in the culture industry, as in all other sectors, in the last two years, when we compare the figures for December 2020 and 2021, we are pleased to see that we have achieved a 5% increase in book production. According to the current international statistics announced by the International Publishers Association and the World Intellectual Property Organization, our country ranks sixth in the world in terms of the number of titles assigned to ISBNs and tenth in terms of retail market size. The fact that the support provided by our Ministry and the projects it carries out has accelerated this breakthrough of the sector also makes us happy and gives us enthusiasm to take stronger steps.” said.

In the night where the theatrical show “The Literary Journey of Word: The Book is the Shell of the Word” was staged, promotional films were screened and a souvenir photo was taken with all the participants.

The first prize went to Logos-A from Macedonia, the second prize went to Arab Scientific from Lebanon, and the third prize went to Alemak from Ukraine. ITO Special Award was presented to Academic Press from Georgia, and YAYFED Special Award was presented to Christina Tremmel from Germany.
In the painting competition titled No to Pirate Books, 8th grade student İrem Selvi was awarded the first prize, 8th grade student Elif Göksu was awarded the second prize, and 7th grade student Ilgaz Aminat Çakır was awarded the third prize. In the night, 7th grade student Helena Sahkaee Nejad received the honorable mention, and Art teacher Seval Pehlevan received the first teacher award.
