Being a graduate of Istanbul University and being the Mayor of this beautiful city now is a service and experience that is done with great pride and honor.”

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) restored the 112-year-old “Beyazit IETT Trolleybus Force Center” which was idle. The opening of the "Library Trolleybus" with 20 thousand books in Fatih Süleymaniye District, IMM President Ekrem İmamoğluIt was held with the participation of “We are excited to bring one of Istanbul's industrial areas, one of its heritages, to life in a functional way,” he said. Stating that the trolleybus has an important place in Istanbul transportation, İmamoğlu drew attention to the importance of the transformation of such places. Saying, "I hope it will be a place that will sign a much better future with us," İmamoğlu shared the following information:

“A NOSTALGIC CONCEPT FOR THE NEW GENERATION”

“The structure has existed here for 112 years. Of course, this is a building that has witnessed many periods, many systems, many cases and events. Moreover, it has a special importance that it is located in one of the most important memory points of our city, like Beyazıt," he said. Summarizing the history of the building, which was transformed into the Library Trolleybus, İmamoğlu said, “We are aware that the trolleybus is actually a nostalgic concept for the new generation. When we see it in Beyoğlu, İstiklal, we see it all as an object of nostalgia. However, these vehicles became the symbol of modernization in transportation at that time. And until 1984, he rendered invaluable services to the people of Istanbul. With their withdrawal from traffic, such areas and such structures have become idle. This is one of them.”

“WE CARE TO IMPLEMENT SUCH AREAS IN THE PUBLIC BENEFIT”

Emphasizing that such industrial centers are not given the necessary importance throughout Turkey and they are being destroyed, İmamoğlu said, "However, I think that this memory, how a healthy transformation will add value to the city, how much it will turn into an area with identity, and that this memory should be kept alive and meet current needs is also important for social maturity. I think it is a benefit; I see it as an important work. In this respect, we attach great importance to reworking such areas and to put them into practice in line with the public interest. We carry out this work not only here, but in many points. These buildings are a kind of historical representative of the industrial and production culture of Istanbul. And they need to be explained. At the same time, when we look at their potential, they have the chance to serve the future of the city in a different dimension," he said. İmamoğlu, recently opened KadıköyHe stated that the Museum Gazhane in Istanbul is a good example of such transformations.

“WE HAVE CARE TO PROTECT THE INSTITUTE STATE OF THE BUILDING”

Stating that they took care to preserve the original state of the building in the restoration of the Library Trolleybus, İmamoğlu said, “I think it will be good for the people who come here to feel it. Of course, the fact that this area really came to life should not be a coincidence. When we look at the area of Beyazıt and Süleymaniye in the past, it is a center of accumulation that nurtures the intellectual side of the city, including madrasahs, university buildings and the most important libraries and second-hand booksellers. Therefore, such a transformation of this valuable field, as a requirement of our lifelong learning mission, can also be considered as an addition to that journey in this era, and we can consider the current position of this field.”

“WE ARE EFFORTS TO OPEN LIBRARY IN DISADVANTAGED AREAS”

Emphasizing that they have to be generous in providing opportunities for young people to develop themselves, İmamoğlu said, “Otherwise, we cannot make it possible to compete with the world. In that respect, together with this learning and empowerment ground, I am sure that they can spread the energy they receive from this beautiful place, Beyazıt, to the whole city. We need to be aware of the richness of this place, which will provide a meeting, conversation and working environment for university clubs. At the same time, it is obvious that this area, like an exhibition area, has a spatial design that has a positive effect on its surroundings with some events that may spill over to the street from time to time.” Emphasizing that they are trying to open libraries in many points in Istanbul, especially in disadvantaged areas, İmamoğlu said:

“WE WILL ADD 9 MORE TO THE 4 LIBRARIES WE HAVE OPENED”

“What I mean here is: We brought many libraries together with our citizens in Istanbul with great efforts, at points where there was a shortage of income and land, where we had great troubles about not being able to do anything or find anything. As of March, we will add 9 more to the 4 libraries we have opened so far. At this point, it is a symbol of our effort to bring justice to that neighborhood, to bring justice to that neighborhood, to that neighborhood, to that street, and to make every citizen equal, especially in places where we have difficulty, where we cannot find the opportunity to build, by renting long-term buildings if necessary. I see. Of course, it will also belong to our young people, who are the real owners of this place, who will enrich, develop and see the rewards for the ingenuity it will display.”

COMMITTED ATATÜRK AND KEMAL

Referring to the war agenda in the world, İmamoğlu said, "It reminds us once again of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's word, which defines war as murder unless it is necessary." Libraries; Emphasizing that enlightenment, having good and correct information, thinking better and having clear minds are the most nurturing areas, İmamoğlu said from master writer Yaşar Kemal, “One should not be a murderer who reads my books, but an enemy of war. Two, oppose the exploitation of man by man. No one should insult anyone. No one can assimilate anyone. States and governments that are eager to assimilate people should not be allowed. Those who read my books should know that those who destroy a culture have lost their own culture and humanity. Let those who read my books unite with the poor, poverty is the shame of all humanity. Let those who read my books be cleansed of all evil.”

“I AM PROUD TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE SCHOOL I GRADUATED”

"I commemorate the great master Yaşar Kemal with mercy and gratitude for bequeathing these beautiful words to us," said İmamoğlu. I also want to express. Being a graduate of Istanbul University and being the Mayor of this beautiful city now is a service and experience that is done with great pride and honor.”

POLAT: “WE FINISHED WITH THE NEEDED SPEED AND METICULOUS”

Mahir Polat, Deputy Secretary General of IMM, also explained the restoration process of the Library Trolleybus in detail. Pointing out that they showed the building to İmamoğlu during their visit to Beyazıt Square last year, Polat said, “It is a project that started with the instructions of our President to be restored and arranged as a gift from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality to the students in the area where Istanbul University is concentrated. Maybe it could have ended faster during this time, since it was a restoration project and it was progressing with precision. But it was finished quickly and meticulously as it should have been.” İmamoğlu, who cut the opening ribbon with the young people, then had a pleasant time with the students. sohbets carried out. Istanbul University Faculty of Architecture Dean Prof. Dr. İmamoğlu, accompanied by Kemal Kutgün Eyüpgiller, answered the questions from the students.
