Regina Maria Cordeiro Dunlop, Consul General of Brazil in Istanbul, Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyervisited . The Jacaranda sapling gifted by Consul General Dunlop to commemorate the friendship between the two countries and the 200th anniversary of Brazil was planted in the garden of İzmir Sanat.

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyerhosted Regina Maria Cordeiro Dunlop, Consul General of Brazil in Istanbul, who visited Izmir Metropolitan Municipality for the first time. Ali Tamer Bozoklar, Honorary Consul of Brazil in Izmir, accompanied the visit at Izmir Sanat. After the visit, a Jacaranda sapling, a tree species unique to Brazil, was planted in the garden of İzmir Sanat.

“First of all, we will strengthen the relations between culture and art”

President Tunç Soyer, thanked Consul General Dunlop for the saplings during the visit and drew attention to the climate crisis through the drought in Lake Marmara. Soyer said, “The climate crisis is one of the biggest problems not only of countries but also of the whole world. There are also water problems in Brazil. We know that we have to act together in the fight against the climate crisis. We are in the sister city stage with Sao Paulo. First of all, we need to develop relations by establishing links between cities. Our priority should be to get to know each other in the best way and to establish the relationship between culture and art. After this bond is established, our commercial relations will also improve," he said.

“It will bring luck to Izmir”

Regina Maria Cordeiro Dunlop, Consul General of Brazil in Istanbul, said, “I am very happy to be in Izmir. We wanted to present the Jacaranda tree to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Brazil. Jacaranda is a very valuable and precious tree for us with its smell and appearance. We believe that the falling of a flower from a tree brings great luck. I wish this tree to bring good luck to İzmir," he said.

President Soyer presented an olive tree to Consul General Cordeiro Dunlop.

Jacaranda met the soil in Kültürpark

After the visit, the symbol of friendship between Brazil and Turkey and at the same time in memory of the 200th anniversary of Brazil's independence, the purple and blue flowered “Jacaranda” sapling was planted in the garden of İzmir Art Center by Soyer and Dunlop.
