Scientific research shows that there is a direct relationship between the microbiome, the boss of the digestive system, and healthy and glowing skin. Stating that natural and aromatic oils shape the health of the skin microbiota, Aromatherapy Specialist Leyla Çakır said, “Fixed oils such as olive oil and coconut oil are the skin's natural food source. Aromatic oils such as chamomile, rose, geranium, jasmine and orange oil also positively affect our emotional world while supporting the skin microbiota.

Scientific research points out that a healthy diet is the key to smooth and glowing skin. Aromatherapy Specialist Leyla Çakır, who stated that the direct relationship between healthy nutrition and a smooth and shiny skin brought scientists to focus on the brain, skin and intestinal axis, said, “At this point, the microbiota formed by microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi that we share our body with comes into play. Although our gut is the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to microbiota health, our skin also has a microbiota. Just as our gut microbiota gains health with natural, unprocessed plant-derived foods, our skin microbiota can attain a healthy structure with unprocessed cosmetic products such as natural and aromatic oils.

Vegetable oils are a beneficial source of nutrients for the skin.

Leyla Çakır said that herbal and aromatic oils shape the health of the skin microbiota, similar to prebiotics, which are defined as beneficial food sources for bacteria in the gut. In addition to factors such as stress and irregular diet, we can support our body health while providing health with fixed and aromatic oils and cosmetic products made from these oils. However, in order for the beneficial components of these products not to be lost and to maintain their healing power, they must be subjected to the least possible mechanical and chemical treatment.

Emotions also affect our world positively.

Noting that cosmetics containing poor quality chemical raw materials, especially harmful chemicals such as SLS found in cleaning products, have the potential to damage the skin barrier and microbiota, Aromatherapy Specialist Leyla Çakır said, “Such products cause exfoliation and skin dryness, which we call irritation. Vegetable oils are equipped with beneficial components such as free radical scavengers, gamma linoleic acid, lauric acid and vitamins, which are known to have positive effects on skin tissue. Aromatic oils such as chamomile, rose, geranium, jasmine, and orange oil not only affect our skin microbiota when applied on the skin with appropriate methods, but also positively affect our emotional world thanks to active fragrance components.

Olive oil is a natural food source for the skin microbiota.

Leyla Çakır pointed out that fixed oils such as olive oil and coconut oil used in aromatherapy are a natural source of nutrients for the skin and intestinal microbiota and said, “These oils soften the skin, repair irritations and relieve dryness. Aromatic oils contain active molecules with properties such as antiseptic and antibacterial. For a healthy skin barrier and microbiota, we should include cosmetic products containing aromatic and vegetable oils or well-formulated products with nature-friendly ingredients certified by international organizations such as Ecocert into our daily routines.
