Alpu Municipality Files Action for Suspension of Execution for URAYSİM Project

Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, Alpu Municipality and the residents of the region, reacting to the National Rail Systems Test Center Project (URAYSİM), which is planned to be established on the fertile agricultural lands of the Eskişehir Alpu Plain, filed a lawsuit to stop the execution of the project. AKP Eskişehir Provincial Chairperson Zihni Çalışkan made statements defending the project and came out harshly against the municipality.

Kemal Atlan from SÖZCU to the news by; While the farmers in the region reacted to the expropriation of fertile agricultural lands by laying approximately 100 kilometers of rails on the area to cover Bozan, Çardakbaşı and Yeşildon villages for the test area of the Rail Systems Test Center Project (URAYSİM), which is planned to be implemented in Alpu, which is described as the agricultural warehouse of Eskişehir, Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality , Alpu Municipality and local residents filed a lawsuit to stay the execution of the project. AKP Eskişehir Provincial Chairperson Zihni Çalışkan reacted to the request to prevent the project.

“BLOCKING URAYSIM IS PREVENTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CITY”

AKP Eskişehir Provincial Chairman Zihni Çalışkan reminded the importance of the URAYSİM Project for the city and criticized Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality.

Stating that the lawsuit filed by the municipality to cancel the project is damaging the future of the city, Çalışkan said, “Trying to prevent the URAYSİM Project from being implemented is trying to prevent the employment of our youth. Trying to prevent the realization of the URAYSİM Project is trying to prevent advanced technology moves and investments. Trying to prevent the realization of the URAYSİM Project is to try to prevent the development of the industry and exports. "An obstacle to URAYSİM is an obstacle to economic growth," he said.

“BOUTIQUE CITY DESIREES CONTINUE”

Stating that the 'URAYSİM' project, Turkey's first rail systems research and test center, will add great value to the city and that Eskişehir is the city of firsts, Çalışkan said:

* In the past, the most important of many projects that were considered impossible by some; The first local locomotive 'Karakurt' and our first domestic car 'Devrim' were manufactured in our city and Eskişehir Industry takes its current success from this tradition with the experience gained in the past. In the 1980s, investment in the automotive industry was blocked, as is known.

* We are sad to see that today someone is trying to prevent a brand project like URAYSİM that will bring great gain to our city! URAYSİM will both provide great scientific gain for rail systems and will be a great employment door for our young people who will graduate from related departments of universities.

* With the lawsuit filed by the Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, especially regarding the cancellation of the project, we see that the 'boutique city' desires of the past still continue. They should realize that: The project you are trying to prevent today; It is the basis of the breakthrough that the city will make with high technology. Preventing this basic facility, which is directed towards rail systems operated with renewable energy, is the worst thing you can do to this city.

* We also see that Eskişehir Organized Industrial Zone and Eskişehir Chamber of Industry are among those who best understand the damage that is being done. With the city's hundred years of experience in railways, we will definitely bring this city a project that has an incredible size of business, an investment of billions of liras that will increase the economy and exports of our city at least one more fold, and most importantly, that will provide employment for thousands of young people from engineers, technicians and workers!

ALPU MAYOR: WE ARE AGAINST THE PROJECT, NOT THE PROJECT

Alpu Mayor Gürbüz Güller, on the other hand, said in a statement he made recently, “We think that it is more appropriate to carry out the project on unproductive, barren alternative lands instead of being built on fertile lands and plains. According to the information we have obtained, even the Ministry of Agriculture has not been consulted in detail for the project area. We know that there are alternative lands around us. For the project site; It would be appropriate in all respects to consider agricultural issues as well as other issues (economic, technical, social, political). As our municipality, our objection is in this direction and it is definitely not to oppose. We are not against the project, but against the place of the project,” he said.

BAR PRESIDENT: FARMERS' FIELDS WILL DRINK

Eskişehir Bar Association City and Environment Law Commission President Atty. Hüseyin Akçar, on the other hand, said, “The rail lines in the project will cut the farmers' fields, pastures, in-field roads, underground piped irrigation channels by breaking the connection. The fields that are disconnected will be dehydrated and there will be a great loss of productivity. We demand the authorities to immediately relocate the project in question and leave Alpu to its fate.”
