Will the Russia-Ukraine War Cause a Food Crisis in Turkey?

Emphasizing that the Russia-Ukraine War will not cause a food crisis in our country, TESK Chairman Bendevi Palandöken said, “As a self-sufficient country in food and agricultural products, the Russia-Ukraine war will never cause a food crisis in our country; as long as the rules are followed," he said.

“SMALL BUSINESSES MUST BE SUPPORTED FOR COMPETITION IN THE MARKET”

Drawing attention to the importance of supporting small tradesmen in order to create a competitive environment in the market, the President of the Confederation of Turkish Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK), Bendevi Palandöken, said, “The markets should not be left to the monopoly of a few companies in order to create competition in the markets and decrease the prices. On the contrary, small businesses should be supported. However, locomotive products that directly affect the prices of all products such as electricity, natural gas and fuel should not be increased for a certain period of time. Thus, prices will return to normal in a short time," he said.

“THE MARKETS SHOULD BE CONFIDENCE BY UPDATING THE RETAIL LAW”

Stating that the Retail Law should be updated without losing time, Palandöken said, “The most important factor in liberal economies is the implementation of rules and inspections. For this reason, the Retail Law, which we have been demanding to be updated for years, should be passed by the Parliament as soon as possible and the markets should be given confidence. This disproportionate supply-demand balance also directly affects the prices. People whose purchasing power has decreased, panicking and buying more products than they need, negatively affects both their own economy and the supply-demand balance. Those who cause this panic in the public should not be trusted. As TESK, we have sent a circular to our Union, Federation and chambers for the maintenance of price stability by taking the necessary measures in this regard.”
