Emanuel Karasu Efendi (or Emmanuel Carasso, born 1862, Thessaloniki – died 1934, Trieste) was a Jewish lawyer and politician, a citizen of the Ottoman Empire.
He is one of the well-known members of the Young Turks. He belonged to a prominent Jewish merchant family. He studied law and started to practice law in Thessaloniki. Karasu was a member (according to some, its founder) and later president of the Macedonian Risorta Masonic Lodge in Thessaloniki and a pioneer of masonic activities in the Ottoman Empire. Masonic lodges and some secret societies were a meeting place in Thessaloniki among the sympathizers of the Young Turks, including Talat Pasha, who had revolutionary radical views. While working as a lawyer in Thessaloniki, Karasu became a member of the Committee of Union and Progress. He is one of the first non-Muslim members of the society.
Society, in 1908 II. When he had a say in the administration of the Ottoman Empire in the Second Constitutional period and afterwards, Karasu entered the Parliament of Parliament from Thessaloniki. Karasu, Sultan II. He was one of the four people who notified Abdulhamid of his state (dethrone) in April 1909. He was elected deputy from Thessaloniki in 1912 and from Istanbul in 1914 when Thessaloniki was lost to Greece in the Balkan War.
He worked for the cooperation of different Jewish organizations in Turkey, insisted that Turkish Jews were first Turkish and then Jewish, and was against the Zionist settlement in Ottoman Palestine. He was a member of the committee that negotiated the end of the Italy-Turkey War with a treaty and tried to make Thessaloniki an international city. After the Armistice of Mudros, he settled in Trieste in Italy and died in the same place in 1934. He is buried in the Jewish cemetery in Arnavutköy.
He is the uncle of Izak Karasu (Isaac Carasso), the founder of the Danone group, who emigrated from Thessaloniki to France in 1912 during the Balkan Wars, and is the great-uncle of Daniel Carasso.
