Shusha City of Azerbaijan Declared as 2023 Cultural Capital of the Turkic World

At the Extraordinary Meeting of the Permanent Council of Ministers of Culture of TURKSOY, the city of Shusha in Azerbaijan was selected as the 2023 Cultural Capital of the Turkic World. Also at the meeting, Sultanbai Raev, former Minister of Culture of Kyrgyzstan and Deputy Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States, was appointed as the Secretary General of TURKSOY for the period 2022-2025.

Following the official opening of the 2022 Turkic World Culture Capital Bursa events, the Extraordinary Meeting of the Permanent Council of Culture Ministers of TURKSOY was held today. A press conference was held after the meeting hosted by the Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, attended by Bursa Governor Yakup Canbolat, Metropolitan Mayor Alinur Aktaş and ministers and ambassadors of TURKSOY member states. Explaining the decisions taken at the Extraordinary Meeting of the Permanent Council of Ministers of Culture of TURKSOY, Assoc. Bilal Çakıcı said that the city of Shusha in Azerbaijan was unanimously chosen as the 2023 Cultural Capital of the Turkic World. Çakıcı also announced that Sultanbai Raev, the former Minister of Culture of Kyrgyzstan and Deputy Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States, has been appointed as the Secretary General of TURKSOY for the period 2022-2025.

2022 will be an important year

Hosting the meeting, Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said, “We have successfully completed the Extraordinary Council Meeting. We would like to thank TURKSOY, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, Bursa Governor's Office for their contribution to the organization of the meeting, my esteemed colleagues for their contributions to the meeting's purpose, and distinguished participants from the country and abroad. We are pleased to welcome you in Bursa, the Cultural Capital of the Turkish World. We held the opening ceremonies of the Turkish World Capital of Culture in Bursa and the Nevruz celebrations simultaneously with great enthusiasm last night. I sincerely believe that the events that will cover the whole year will be as successful as these celebrations. At the same time, the year 2022 is extremely important for us. The steps we will take this year, which we think we have come to the end of the pandemic, are also of great importance. I would like to thank Mr. Dusen Kaseinov, who has duly fulfilled his duties as the Secretary General of TURKSOY for four terms, for his devoted work in understanding, preserving and promoting Turkish culture and art to the whole world, and for his contributions to the development of friendship relations between our brotherly countries. We wish success to our new secretary general. I would like to thank everyone to meet in Shusha, Azerbaijan, which will be the Cultural Capital of the Turkic World next year.”

After his speech, Minister Ersoy presented a plaque of appreciation to Dusen Kaseinov, who has successfully served as the Secretary General of TURKSOY for 4 terms.
