Simultaneous earthquake drills were held in all schools across the country with the participation of Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer and Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu.

Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer and Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu participated in the exercise from Haydar Aliyev Secondary School in Yenimahalle. Ministers Özer and Soylu, who accompanied the evacuation of the students during the exercise, went to the assembly area and watched the exercise, which was held in other provinces, on the screens set up in the garden of the school.

“We will now complete school reinforcements in all our provinces in 2022”

After the exercise, Minister Özer stated in his speech that today's earthquake drill was held simultaneously in all schools across the country with the participation of approximately 14 million students and 1 million teachers.

Özer stated that for 17 years, the efforts to strengthen the schools have been carried out with a budget of 3,5 billion liras and new schools have been built to replace the demolished schools and gave the following information: “In this context, 2 school buildings have been strengthened and 865 of them have been strengthened in the last 2 years. Again, approximately 459 of our school buildings were demolished and a new one was built in their place. 100 of these have happened in the last 2 years. Within the scope of the protocol, we will complete the school reinforcements in all our provinces in 2022 and we will replace the demolished school buildings with our new schools.”

Reminding that the Teaching Profession Law came into force, Özer said, “As of today, we will add disaster-safe school and disaster and emergency education to all specialist teacher and head teacher trainings.” used the phrase.

Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, in his speech here, said that Turkey is a disaster area. Stating that he has been faced with earthquakes and other disasters recently, Minister Soylu said; He stated that 2019 and 2020 were declared the year of preparedness for disasters and 2021 was the year of disaster education, and 56 million people were reached in this context.

Stating that the drills in schools are complementary to disaster education, Soylu explained that what will be done in disasters will be passed on to future generations. Stating that 2022 exercises will be held in 54, which is declared the year of disaster drills, Soylu said, “We will conduct a great exercise in Turkey towards the end of this year.” shared his knowledge.

Thanking the teachers and students who participated in the exercise, Soylu said that approximately 1 million teachers received disaster training last year. Soylu pointed out that teachers undertake important duties within the Turkey Disaster Response Plan.

After the speeches, Ministers Özer and Soylu signed the Disaster Drills Protocol.
