Increase in Public Transportation Fees in Izmir! Here are the New Tariffs

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality had to make arrangements in public transportation tariffs due to the successive high increases in fuel and electricity prices. With the decision taken by the majority of votes at the Transportation Coordination Center, the new boarding fees that will be effective as of Sunday, March 20 have been determined. It has been decided to automatically update the tariffs every month in the light of the Producer Price Index (PPI), announced by TURKSTAT, for “healthy and sustainable public transportation service stability”. On the other hand, the ferry schedule for İZDENİZ was also arranged.

Boarding tariffs for ESHOT, İZULAŞ, İZDENİZ, Metro-Tramway and İZBAN and ESHOT-controlled İZTAŞIT vehicles, which are affiliated to İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, operated in partnership with TCDD-Metropolitan Municipality, have been rearranged due to the high increases in fuel and energy prices. In the current economic picture, it was emphasized that the change in tariffs is essential for the continuation of the public transportation service.

Increased 2,5 percent in 99,7 months

While the kilowatt hour of electricity was 31 TL on 2021 December 1,13; It was noted that as of March 17, this figure was 2,60 TL and the rate of increase reached 130 percent. The revenue does not even cover the fuel oil.

ESHOT General Directorate, which takes almost half of the public transportation load in the city, uses 140 thousand liters of fuel per day; It was stated that with today's prices, 2 million 612 thousand TL fuel costs are incurred every day. It was noted that the entire daily revenue of ESHOT could only meet 62 percent of the fuel used. 64 million 476 thousand TL of the total revenue obtained since the beginning of the year; It was stated that only fuel expenses were 101 million 164 thousand TL.

6,78 TL support for each passenger from the Metropolitan

The ferry schedule has also changed.

On the other hand, ferry charges have been rearranged in İZDENİZ A.Ş. In the statement made by İZDENİZ, it was reminded that the last price adjustment for car ferries was carried out on 28 November 2021. While it was stated that the price of one liter of diesel was 7,65 TL that day, it was emphasized that this figure had increased by 101 percent in the last three months and was 16 TL as of March 15,34. While it is stated in the current table that it is inevitable to change the tariff; It was pointed out that with the regulation made, the toll fee for the cars that use the car ferry the most, was increased by only 28 percent.

Lowest fare per mile

Despite the new price regulation that will be effective as of Sunday, March 20, it has been noted that the "lowest wage per mile" tariff among similar establishments is still applied in İzmir. While there is no change in the 1 TL fee charged to other passengers in the vehicles, excluding the driver and passengers with free pass; The new fees are as follows:

Car 32 TL; motorcycle 18 TL; minibus/pickup TL; midibus 90 TL; bus/truck 130 TL; TIR 250 TL…

The first transfer fee in 120 minutes was determined as 1,20 TL, and the second transfer fee was determined as 90 kuruş. The practice of not being charged for the third and subsequent transfers within 120 minutes after the first boarding will continue.

The student boarding fee, which has been the same for nearly two years, has also been increased from 1,64 TL to 2,20 TL. Teacher and age 60 boarding fee was increased from 4,06 TL to 5,60 TL. One-year cost increase is 182 percent!

On the other hand, the increases in the exchange rate affected the costs as spare part purchases were indexed to foreign currency.

Free rides are not subsidized

In İzmir with a population of approximately 4,5 million; Postal Distributor Card, Age 65 Card, TUIK Card, Press Card, Martyr's Family Card, Veteran's Card, Disabled Card, Disabled Companion Card holders, Security Service Class, Privates and Privates, Coast Guard and Gendarmerie and health personnel also benefit from public transportation services free of charge. . Despite the additional costs caused by the fact that the social policies determined by the Central Administration cannot be subsidized by the relevant institutions, it is given priority to provide services without compromising the understanding of social municipality.”

Prices will be updated every month

In the UKOME decision, it was also noted that the prices could not be predicted due to the uncertainty in energy and fuel prices and the continuous upward trend.
