Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy stated that they will celebrate the 27 March World Theater Day with private theaters spread across 81 provinces.

Minister Ersoy, who came together with the theater artists at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM), gave information to the members of the press about the festival they will prepare as part of the 27 March World Theater Day.

Minister Ersoy stated that as the Ministry, they regularly meet with private theaters and try to take joint decisions on strategies for the future of theatre, and said, “As you all know, March 27 is World Theater Day and we made a special study for this year. We decided to spend two full days with both State Theaters and private theaters in Turkey's 81 provinces. We want the day to be full, not only on March 27, but also on March 26.” he said.

Pointing out that they made a request from private theaters in this context, Minister Ersoy said, “Private theaters that want to perform their own plays together with the State Theatres should apply to us and we will give support.” He explained what they said and that there were 385 applications.

Minister Ersoy said, “Of these, 17 plays, 69 of them children and 86 of them normal, were found worthy to be played by our theater jury. These plays will be staged together with the State Theaters on March 81-26 in 27 provinces. 198 performances will be held together with the State Theatres. From now on, we will continue to celebrate the World Theater Day on March 27 every year by increasing our performance with our private theaters, spread over 81 provinces.” used the phrases.

“We Will Ensure That Private Theaters Take Place in Both Istanbul and Ankara”

Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy stated that the second Beyoğlu Cultural Road Festival will start on May 8 and they will simultaneously organize the Capital Cultural Road Festival.

Emphasizing that they want theaters to take a large part in these festivals, Minister Ersoy said, “In this context, we will make demands for plays there again. We will ask the games that want to play to contact us. Again, we will evaluate according to the performances and ensure that private theaters take place in both Istanbul and Ankara during the festival events.” said.

“This is a Temporary Application”

Pointing out that they will provide energy support to private theaters starting next month in line with the demands received, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy continued his words as follows:

“There is also a lot of talk on social media, 'Did the State Theaters impose an age limit on people over 65?' saying. This is a study entirely on the Covid-19 outbreak. Our State Theaters took this decision because the epidemic is currently intense and the number of cases has increased a lot, because the statistics from our Ministry of Health mainly cause the loss of life in the age group of 65 and over, and unfortunately, there is no social distance in the theater due to its structure and it is an art made without wearing a mask. . This is a temporary application. Currently, the number of cases is also going down. I think that this practice will be ended by May 1st. We accept our players aged 60 and over, who are currently on staff with us, on administrative leave. We don't give them roles unless it's absolutely necessary. This practice will continue until May 1, and after May 1, the old practice will be reverted, with the number of cases already falling.”

Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Özgül Özkan Yavuz, Istanbul State Theater Director Kubilay Karslıoğlu, Theater Cooperative Board Member and actors Mert Fırat, Volkan Severcan, Ahmet Yenilmez and Süha Uygur also attended the meeting.
