With the “Our EML is the Star of the Future” project, which it started in 2014 and has invested more than 3,5 million Euros to date, Mercedes-Benz Türk has become the company that reaches the highest number of schools and students in Turkey, with 31 Mercedes-Benz Laboratories opened.

The “Our EML is the Star of the Future” project, initiated by Mercedes-Benz Türk in 2014 within the scope of Industrial Vocational High Schools (EML), continues to grow. More than 31 students received training in 2.400 Mercedes-Benz Laboratories (MBL) that have been established to date, nearly 1.300 students did internships at Mercedes-Benz authorized dealers, and nearly 2.000 students graduated. Mercedes-Benz authorized dealers selected one out of every three graduates they recruited from among the students who graduated from the project, and gave an internship opportunity to one of every two students who took part in the project. Preparations continue for the Mercedes-Benz Laboratory to become operational at the 2nd school.

With Mercedes-Benz Laboratories opened in 3,5 schools with an investment of more than 31 million Euros, Mercedes-Benz Türk has become the company that reaches the most schools and students in the most cities in Turkey. Currently, different companies have similar laboratories in 20 schools in total.

Our EML Future Star project positively affects employment

According to the results of the impact analysis conducted by an independent research company, 29,6 percent of 11 million people employed in Turkey are vocational or technical high school graduates; Only 18 percent of those who graduated from vocational high schools continue their working life. 40 percent of vocational high school graduates who continue their working life also work in jobs related to the fields they graduated from. The rate of those who state that they have never worked after graduation is 64 percent.

Within the scope of the same impact analysis results, 63 percent of the students trained in Mercedes-Benz Laboratories are currently in business life, and 67 percent of the working graduates continue to work in the automotive sector. Continuing education in a higher education institution is one of the main reasons why graduates who do not participate in business life do not work. This factor is followed by compulsory military service and university preparations. The rate of graduates who have never worked before is only 4%. All these data reveal the contribution of the project to the employability of students in the sector in every sense and the success of our EML, the Future Star project.

Emphasizing that as Mercedes-Benz Türk, they have always adopted the principle of “Education comes first” and that they have contributed to the contemporary future of Turkey for many years with the social benefit programs they carry out with this principle, Mercedes-Benz Türk Chief Executive Officer Süer Sülün said, “Our EML is the Star of the Future project, which they have been running for seven years. He expressed his happiness and pride in the results they achieved.

Thanks to our project, we contribute positively to employment by supporting the professional and personal development of students. The students involved in the project continue to work in the sector after graduation. Most of the graduates employed continue their careers at our dealers. Our project is in an extremely important position in terms of recruiting qualified personnel to our sector. In addition, participating in the project has a positive impact on students' daily lives, social skills and future expectations. Sülün underlined that they will continue to develop the project in line with the feedback they receive from their stakeholders in the upcoming period.

Süer Sülün: “We will increase female employment in our sector”

Süer Sülün emphasized that necessary arrangements will be made within the scope of the project so that women can be included in the sector even more in the coming years; “Increasing female employment in the sector is a very important issue for us. In the upcoming period, we will strive to increase the participation of our female students in our project. We want to see more women in the project and in the industry,” she said.

Carrying the Mercedes-Benz logo motivates students

Within the scope of the independent research conducted for our EML, the Future Star project, the qualified contribution of the project to the students is also clearly expressed by the teachers who take an active role in the laboratory processes. According to the teachers, positive social changes such as increased self-confidence are observed in the students who take lessons at the Mercedes-Benz Laboratory.

The parents of the students studying at the Mercedes-Benz Laboratory said, “Participating in a program initiated by Mercedes-Benz, using clothes and bags with the Mercedes logo makes our children feel a sense of belonging to Mercedes-Benz. In this case, there is a positive change in our children. We are also proud when our neighbors appreciate our children.” they express their feelings.

A detailed study was carried out while measuring the impact of the project.

While the impact of our EML Future Star project was being measured, a desk study was carried out primarily to present the picture of the situation in Turkey. In this study, the current situation for vocational and technical high schools in Turkey was examined and background information was compiled. With the desk study conducted in this direction, current data and prominent projects carried out to strengthen vocational high schools were examined.

In the quantitative phase of the study, a survey was conducted with nearly 400 students, graduates and teachers. Then, the qualitative phase of the study was carried out by conducting in-depth interviews with the project stakeholders. In this context; The qualitative research was finalized by conducting in-depth interviews and focus group interviews with students, graduates, teachers and dealers.
